Discussion
Drawing up to some roadwaords on a B road with a 30mph limit. I stop short of the pedestrian crossing.
Right in front of me is a large luton box fan.
A group of 4 young lads (about 14) press the button and, without waiting, start to cross. They are side by side, two at the front, two at the rear. The front left has his head down and the front right is concentrating on bouncing a football.
I look passed the box van and see coming a car which is being tailgated by a huge artic. I give the guys a small toot and they stop in their tracks. A second later the car and artic passes by and nearly takes their noses off.
Their lucky day I reckon....

Would you have done it if it was a police car coming through on a blue light run
Anyway, I'd hope that they would use their siren as well. Either way, they should be in a position to reasonably expect people to be crossing the road:
a) at a pelican crossing
b) near to a school
c) near to a large playing field
I believe they call these things observation links.

He is having a dig at me because I don't subscribe to the notion that police drivers should be able to blatt around our roads, killing people and no one seems to be interested putting it down to 'one of those things'.
I wonder what the old Class 1 Police Driving instructors would think of this attutude within the more modern Advanced Response drivers.

There is nothing wrong with my 'attitude' matey...
I'm pulling your leg, due to your 'dog with bone' posts about police drivers...
I really can't see the point at all...
It's been discussed recently, that the police are nowadays not speeding to emergencies on the account of being hung out to dry in the event of an accident...Consequently, if you find yourself sucking on the end of something unpleasant for longer than is necessary.....just remember 'the police are being careful getting to you'

But Streetcop the key thing is about using the correct speed for the prevailing conditions. If police drivers are expected to get to an incident at limit 20mph and that route takes in A roads, B roads, town centre, etc.. then it will only be a matter of time before a collision occurs. The KEY THING IS TO MAKE PROGRESS WHERE IT IS APPROPRIATE.

I think you've sneaked a bit of inside knowledge there. 'Gone' didn't want to trust us with that kind of insight.
Anyhow, good action on your part. Well done.
Best wishes all,
Dave.
