Cayman S remapping - Worth it or not?
Discussion
HI
I've got a 56 Cayman S and am looking for options for performance remapping.
I've contacted a couple of companies and I'm looking at an average stated increase of 20 BHP, one offers enabling of the sports chrono settings.
Costs vary between £300 and £500.
Advice on options that will offer increased performance would be appreciated.

Without changing any hardware I would be very surprised if you got anything like 20bhp extra through a remap.
The standard car could be running as liitle more than the standard 295bhp if you are running higher quality fuel but I think you would need to do something with the breathing and exhaust to make a remap worthwhile.
Check out the options on Planet 9 / Suncoast parts for ideas of what is possible.

It'll cost a lot more than that to get a real 20hp, and then you'll barely notice it. You'll also knacker it's resale if you ever want to part company with it. Also, Sport Chrono doesn't add power, it removes the soft limiter so instead you just slam into the hard limiter. By which point you should have changed gear anyhow. Also the improved throttle response means that you have to press the pedal less to get the same effect as you would pressing the pedal more without it. Just press the pedal further and save yourself £500.
as others have said you will not see 20bhp.
but you can get to 345bhp quite easy changing a few parts.
Sports crono is far better and give you a slight slip angle before PSM cuts in, I would NOT be without it.
One of the main issues with gen 1 cars is the rear CATS, delete those can you gain good BHP.
Over all it's not all about gained BHP, the gen 1 cars have quite a nasty dead area at 3.5k revs doing a few mods clears that up and makes the car far better to drive over all.
