911 Carrera rental in Germany

Last year I posted her my experiences with a 991 Carrera S from Avis in which I toured Wales and Scotland. This year, after the Frankfurt show, I picked up a 991 Carrera from Avis and have driven it through Bavaria, Switzerland, at tiny bit of northern Italy (verboten by Avis actually ) and now into Austria on my way back to Frankfurt next week.

After the S last year, the standard Carrera has less performance obviously but someone at Avis had the good sense to order cars with some decent spec - 20" wheels, PSE. sunroof and the sports steering wheel with PADDLES! So the car has a nice sound, great gearbox and looks the part but the Alpine roads show up the lack of PASM - the car feels too soft when pressing on. But the PDK really comes into its own on the tight hairpin-laden high pass roads.

A word of warning for anyone considering doing the same. The car needs to be checked very carefully for even the tiniest scratches. Any not noted will be picked up on return by the Frankfurt Avis check-in staff who suddenly take an obsessive interest in the paintwork and happily charge you for items you wouldn't even fix on your own car. That aside, this is a great way to drive some fabulous roads in a decent car.

I was thinking about this, but I thought there was a tight mileage restriction like 200Km a day, which would put me off....am I wrong?.

You are correct - I think the excess mileage is one euro per km. So no, it's not a money saving idea per se.
