High Mileage 997s

I've recently bust 85000 in my 2006 C4S.
OK my commute is Bristol to London, and whilst I have an oil burner as well I do enjoy mixing it up with the 911. If I don't use it what's the point.
But looking on the classifieds the cheapest cars have mileage of upto 64,000 miles a year. I don't understand, are these cars all clocked, or do most people not bother use their cars? If they don't then why bother with a Porsche, why not just stick to Lotus or Ferrari, where you don't want to sit in the car for hours at a time or which are impractical?
Just think it's strange. Is it just me?

I've noticed that too - there are a lot of garage queens that dont get used so much - I bought a 3 year old 997.2 with 13K on the clock - 2 years on and its 47K - its my DD so the mileage is clocking up here and abroad. It does seem a shame many don't get driven that much, but then can make a good low mileage opportunity for people like me...

My commute is non-existent as I work from home and I'm getting a Defender as a daily driver/runabout.

That's pretty much the same question my wife regularly asks me as she uses the train to commute. Simple answer, as practical as the 911 is, you're never going to get your all parent in law's luggage in it when picking them up from the airport.

Really? How many miles are people doing per annum if they took commute mileage out?

I was going to type a pithy reply but the more I think about it, the less running two cars actually makes sense. My 997 is pretty much the only car we use 90% of the time which goes to show just how how practical it is. It'll easily handle everything a family weekend way including luggage, my son in his car seat, with space for his buggy and travel cot.
But hey, I had the big oil burner first and the need for a second car does actually arise a lot more than just picking up my in laws from the airport

Totally agree, indeed I do the same, except I do a lot more mileage in my diesel. My 997 is pretty much the only car we use 90% of the time which goes to show just how how practical it is. It'll easily handle everything a family weekend way including luggage, my son in his car seat, with space for his buggy and travel cot.

I'd like to think that if my weekly commute were higher, fiscal responsibility would mean the OB would get used a lot more as the mpg is pretty much double that of my 997. I'd like to think that but......Matt Sketch said:

I respect your choice and accept that the 911 is a very versatile car, but for me I split my miles 12k to my oiler, 3k to my 911.
Long journeys, shopping trips, moving people - the oiler is much better at. Especially long haul where it's quieter, rides better and gives me twice the mileage.
Pleasure trips when I can drive where I want to, for no particular reason other than to drive. That's when the 911 us in its element for me.
