Have you tried all the big contractors in Aberdeen? Wood Group, Petrofac, Amec etc? I'd have thought you'd be ok for a start as an Instrument Pipefitter or something along those lines with your background - maybe more if you're lucky.

Drop them all CV's if you haven't already.

You have BOSIET and MIST? Most places won't entertain you if you don't, the same trouble I'm having at the minute, busy saving up for courses.

Trying for a few years??? Not very hard obviously, it got to the pint with me that the agencies were ringing me every monday to tell me they had nothing for me than the other way, i spoke with them and built such a good relationship. Go to aberdeen and drop cvs off at company receptions go to offshore exhibitions and drop your cv off, goggle, google, google and google, for roles, linkedin is also useful also often just getting in the industry full stop opens doors, so even if its not jobs with your background apply for stuff you may be able to do. It took me 9 months then got offered two jobs in two days, never looked back. i treated looking as a job and spent probably two hours a day on the net searching for jobs. I foolish thought my military background would help, it really didn't, also a lot easier to get offshore over the last couple of years, keep persevering.
