Noticed at the start of the week that there was a metallic rattle coming from the engine bay.
Asked for advice on the Disco forum after putting up 2 videos of the rattle.
Stopped using the car on wednesday as the general verdict was a tensioner of some kind being loose.
Stripped the front down today and was confronted by this..

The bearings in the pulley had gone, when my mate Kevin took the tension off it, the final 4 bearings fell out of it.
My mechanic guy has never seen a tensioner fail on a D3 in this way before. A lucky escape as the belt had already jumped a groove on the alternator pulley and was starting to rub.
Ordered a new one from Landrover at £72...
Shall fit it tomorrow.

New part from LR bought and fitted. Rather pricey for the part though.
The belt put up a fight for getting back on, but got it in the end.
Some blood had to be shed to the LR gods before they let me get it finished.
Now it's time to take it for a drive and to fill it up as i have 12 miles in the range..
Have found out the LR parts department guy stays literally round the corner for me, knows the family etc.
He was walking his dog past when i saw him while packing away the tools.
Discounted parts ahoy!

Behave!

Tbh, it had done nearly 112k so not bad. Not expected though.
Anyway, still got the rest of the suspension refresh to do, brakes to upgrade, diff oils to change, autobox to megaflush and filter change then add underbody protection and bolt on tarty bits up top. Snorkel, roof rack etc.
