Thanks and congratulations to the 750MC, for realising that there were so many moderns in the Birkett as such (and, I regret to say, 'modern' standards of racing courtesy) that classics and historics just didn't weant to enter any more. A loss, when the Birkett used to feature such iconic cars as Mother Gun, 4.5 litres of racing Bentley, let alone all the smaller cars.

So if you didn't know, take note: The Historic Birkett will include cars of designs marketed before 1974, and will be at Snetterton on November 2nd. Only four hours of racing, as sunset is at half past four!

John
PS Look out for the All-Triumph Team!

Yep, we will be there. Had enough of the Caterham/Radical Birkett.

John
Look out for the all Lotus 7 team.

Despite a lot of people telling us they are going to send through an entry form, we have about at 8 teams confirmed so far. We're hopeful of around at least 20 teams, but we need to see some more entry forms coming through soon!

How are peoples plans going? We've just had a second team of Frazer Nash cars enter, and we are expecting more entries over the next few days.

If you need additional drivers or cars, let the Club know and we will do what we can to help.

8 teams, Ben?
Ou sont les neiges du hier? Searching for times past, nostalgia ain't what it used to be.
What HAS happened to all the classics and veterans that used to be thashed unmercifully at the Birkett? Gone to owners who see them as 'investments', rather than as sporting equipment?

Can you tell us the list of teams so far, jutst the names and if those are uninformative, the principal cars? "Team Betty Swallocks" doesn't tell you what they are racing!

Hi John,

So far we have

Morgans x 2 teams (4/4's, Plus 8's)
Lotus 7 x 1 team
MGB/Cooper/Lotus 23B team
Frazer Nash x 2 teams
SR&GT x 1 team (cars TBC)
MGB/Sprite team

Plus some Bugattis, more MG's and Sprites, 750 Trophy, Minis and more expected to enter over the next week. It's picking up.

Thnaks, Ben!
Sounds like the Birkett as it used to be - a good crowd and no crowding!

The 750MC has cancelled the Historic Birkett.

By close of day on the last date for entries, only twelve teams had entered. 750 say that it wasn't the finances, although they would have taken a loss, but that it wouldn't have been a Birkett with only twelve cars on track. And I have to agree with them.

So, nil carborundum! Too late for anything else this year, but I will look for similar relay/ endurance events in 2014, and I hope all those who wanted to support the All-Triumph Team will be able do so next year!

Not confirmed to us yet, in fact Ben said the opposite yesterday. Not too hopeful though

cancelled for sure according to web site. Will probably dilute the interest in the main Birkett due to the older car teams not entering.

Yes unfortunately the decision was taken not to run the Historic Birkett this year. We had a lower than anticipated number of entries and we didn't want to disappoint people with poor grid sizes.

In contrast the regular Birkett, now in it's 62nd year, will see a record breaking full capacity 70 team grid at Silverstone this weekend.

Perhaps the cut off date of 1975 was too early?

I would have sooner watched 12 cars going around than none. Couldn't they have split the teams into pairs and doubled the amount of cars on track? Obviously this would mean ignoring the financial repercussions.
The event needs to start somewhere and 12 teams (at least 36 cars) for a "first" event would seem a good starting point.
