Chimaera 500 camshaft fitting advice (stealth)
Discussion
Good evening all.
Have purchased a stealth cam kit from V8D for my 500..
it came with a cloyes timing chain set which looks the part.
This has fitting instructions for Ford and GM engines but not the Rover.
Do I assume that that it has to be fitted at zero degrees (tdc)
Also the cam never came with a cam card??
Would appreciate any advice from anyone that has fitted one of these..
Thanks
Rob

I had the same timing chain kit (Cloyes Street Roller I think) and you're right it does have 2 sets of fitting instructions. From memory it's the GM one you want and the thing to pay attention to is the two 'o' marks on both sprockets. Make sure they face each other.
Don't worry about the cam card - you won't be able to dial much in with the Street Roller - only 2/4 degs advance or retard. Stick with standard timing and you'll be fine. Rob at V8D uses these for a reason!
See below
Hope this helps
Ryan
Edited to say - I think you won't get a cam card anyway as Robs grinds are kept close to his chest!

been slow chris to be honest..busy at work.
Had to change front cam bearing as well which was a pain.
ok..got both sprockets on..
do we think this is correct??

heres a shot of the chassis while I was underneath it

been giving the water tower a polish up with autosol and a scotchbrite pad..shines up nicely..

You need to dial the cam in obviously... you put a cam wheel on the end of the crank and a DTI on No1 front inlet lifter. (thats having established TDC with the other DTI) and then line up the 0 or 2A or 4A or 2R depending which way you need to go... remember 2 deg on the cam is 4 deg on the crank etc...
I tried a cloyes unit when I re-built my engine. it says you can dial in to 1 deg but I found it was actualy 2 deg after a lot of checking... problem I had was it was just past the mark one way and obviously 2 deg before the other... allowing for chain stretch you want to be a bit advanced so it will wear in over time.
they say +/- 3 deg is okay but I set mine to plus 1 with a vernier and then pinned it

Out of interest, how did you go about setting the pre-load on the followers. Did you use adjustable pushrods or shims?
