Have had a couple of quick runs and drives ok.
It's been messed with, has power steering and am LPG system, plus I don't think the interior is original.

Am I right in thinking it would originally have had a vinyl interior and a different steering wheel?

Do you know what year the one in the pic is?

The only thing on mine that appears not to be working are the indicators - I am sure that won't be the case for too long!

Thanks.
Mine's a 1971, so I think it has been changed. It's not a big deal, it's just that if I need to fettle as I go along I'll try and replace with original parts.

The seats, carpets, central cubby and steering wheel are from a post 1981 car

Do let us see more pictures though - any Range Rover Classic is a wonderful thing!

£7400 on ebay.

having a good look today and driven it 60 odd miles and seen what else needs doing the feeling is it's ok. Nice underneath and nice bodywork - drives and stops well. The sunroof is a nice period type addition.

Think I will remove the LPG - buy some rubber matts - check out waxoyl type protection and drive it a bit.

Plus it need a bit of dirt on it as it is a very "snot" shade of green.

some people are never satisfied............................

you are sitting there is your study, trawling ebay, pissed a parrot, and you get the urge to buy a beautiful old range rover, in a FANTASTIC colour, that is not 100% original, but in good condition overall condition, AND you can afford it - so you buy it.

Great - what are you complaining about man?

Don't beat yourself up - don't kick the car either.

If you want an original 1970's interior my friend Damon at kingsley cars (www.kingsleycars.co.uk) will have a decent one lying round - give him a call.

Be warned however - in the winter you will freeze to death on the rock hard vinyl and in summer you will be sauteed to a crisp as you absorb all the heat that has accumulated into the surface.

Furthermore, irrespective of the season you will slide around like a marble in a jar whenever a corner even appears and you and your passengers will be sweating like rapists on any journey over 5 minutes

On a serious note please do contact Damon for an interior - tell him you want a slightly worn one in keeping with cars status as a practical classic and not a trailer queen.

Then keep it in the garage to sell with the car - if you ever do so.

In the meantime you can appreciate the joys of the more civilised later interior, safe in the knowledge that your investment is protected by the vinyl nonsense in the garage.

Simples!

Also stick a bob or two in the jar on the mantelpiece to have the bumper blades painted matt silver, round wing mirrors fitted and for the whole beast to get a blow-over in Lincoln Green, for I fear to say, its currently looking worryingly like applejack green, beloved of Mini Metros of a certain age....

That said, she looks a beaut - make sure you enjoy

Nice looking classic, these older cars have a certain charm to them. It certainly look in good condition.

If you end up putting it back to original seats I might be interested in the ones currently fitted for a 2 door restoration I have coming up.

Whatever you do, enjoy the car smile

Can't argue with any of that!

In my defence, your honour, I was thinking more about replacing stuff that may need replacing soonish rather than in search of period perfection - the seats are pretty worn and have fag burns in them and the carpets smell like only 30+ yr old car-carpet can. plus the steering wheel leather is ripped. if I do replace/spend some cash I may as well try and get it right???

Your contrition is noted and you are hereby cleared of all charges.

Please DO contact Damon though - he is in Witney near Oxford.

Although he specialises in 50-grand plus restorations for the filthy rich and bonkers he is not a snob(unlike a certain london-based Range Rover specialist I could mention) and he has all manner of bits and bobs that will improve your lovely Range Rover.

Your best bet is to make an appointment to see him and take the car over there - tell him Victor put you in touch and I said he has to look after you!!!!!!

Ignore this. The car isn't original and it doesn't matter. Leave it in Kermit, Applejack, Kawasaki or whatever it is and focus on making the car as nice to use as possible. Some cars demand being returned to factory spec, some enjoyed for what they are. Yours falls into the latter category IMHO.

It looks superb, you bought it when pissed (good man) and you clearly love it as much now you're sober (you are sober right?).

I must confess to being just a little bit envious.
