Has anyone had any experience of using either the Cair-o-Port, or the Carcoon (or any others) to store a car?

I want to put my wedge into one of these over the winter, in my single garage. I quite fancy the Cair-o-Port, as it has a frame which makes it easier to get the car in and out of if necessary (nice sunny winters day...).

Any opinions gratefully received.

Rich.

I used a Carcoon for a couple of years during the winter damp months in a very damp garage to store a TR6 I had at the time plus all my tools, worked brilliantly and kept everthing fresh and dry. Will even dry out a wet car.
If its long term storage can highly recomend, though is a pain to collapse the bubble to get the car out if you want to keep taking it out, also when infated they are surprisingly bulky so check garage size, particularly if you have an up and over door on the garage as they are quite high.
I have just sold my Carcoon via Pistonheads as I now have a new integral garage.
Cant comment on the efectiveness on other systems but the principals are surely the same.

yeah i've got a carcoon, worksperfectly. i've also got a very damp garage, i keep my escort in it and its bone dry, in the same garage the sierra had pools of condensation under it were it had ran down the sides!

if your just using it for long term storage then i can't recommend them enough. however if you feel you need to get it out every now and again for a blast i'd be looking at the car-o-port.

in fact i'm also on the verge of buying one myself for the chim, if it proves as effective as the carcoon i might consider also changing the carcoon for one. Although its considerably cheaper than a carcoon, which makes me think abit, i'm a great believer of you get what you pay for

I was wondering about these too. But I have a good garage so was just wondering about getting a greenhouse heater to just leave on.

oh one thing i forgot, carcoons do take up a fair bit of room in the garage, which you might need to consider.

heres a pic of mine, i believe its a size 4(i bought it second hand) as it used to house an escort cossie.

i no of a guy that also uses a small heater and a dehumidifier IN the carcoon.. although he does live in scotland!

I have the Air-Chamber which is similar in design to the Cair-o-Port. I elected to go ith that over the Carcoon becuse of the difficulty getting cars in and out of the Caroon. If it is a sunny winter day and I want to get the car out it takes 30 seconds to unzip the back. With a Carcoon you have to take the top off which takes considerably longer. Also if it is in a single garage, getting around the cover to unzip it could be difficult. The other thing to thik about is that if you put the car away wet you could be dragging the carcoon over the top of the car as you position it and possibly scratching the paintwork. With the Air-chamber and Cair-o-Port you just drive in and zip the back down.

I have no experience with the Cair-o-Port but I think that style with the frame is better than the Carcoon. The only other thing you need to consider is the clearance. If you have an up and over garage door will it clear the frame as it opens? I had to reduce the frame but cutting down the uprights to achieve this.
