Exhaust Fumes inside Griff

Yes! Mine is distinctly smelly, more than could be reasonably accounted for by any amount of "They all do that Sir". ALthough mine is worse with the window open than closed. I suspect it may be the manifold gasket or something.

If it's a pre-cat you will notice the smell more - and make your eyes water. If you drive with the window down, at low speeds you may get a waft coming in from the tailpipes, but more likely to be a leak either at the manifold, Y piece or downpipe.
If you have cats and you can smell it, it almost certainly is coming out from a leak before the cats.

With the engine running and the bonnet up, listen for any loud ticking noises. There is lots of normal mechanical noise gnereated by the engine anyway, so it's a little tricky if you haven't heard it before, but it would be quite an obvious ticking about five or six times a second if it's coming from just one manifold gasket (one cylinder).
If it's eminating from the manifold to Y piece join, it will be more constant (4 cylinders) and it from the downpipe very constant (8 cylinders).
You could also get a piece of tissue paper and hold it over the exhaust joints. If you have air escaping, the tissue will flutter, or get a length of small bore plastic tube and stick one end in your ear and move the other around the engine. This will allow you to easily identify exactly where the noise is coming from.

Nope, its just had the manifold gaskets replaced,so I presume it cant be that,the car is a 93 precat, any other ideas would be gratefully received.
I have lived with mine like that from new - told exhaust gets into body panels and out through carpet walls in cab from tail pipes and would I like to fit some caravanners down turned pipes.....!? - carpets have rotted through behind seats

two things to do.
seal the round ventilation grilles that sit in the rear bulkhead so they are air tight.
from inside the boot, remove carpet trim around fuel tank and seal the gap between the wheel arch and the body.this is quite tricky to do - bits of thin plywood and mastic sealer.
I've had to do this on a 280 and a 350 wedge and now a griff.
no more fumes !!
