OK finally found a cerbera that fits my brief colour, original headlights, mileage, 2000 plus car etc.

But I still have this nagging feeling that it would only feel like I'd brought second best to a 4.5 cerbera.
Should I hold out for a simular 4.5 or am I being just to fussy.

IMHO, I don't think you'll find that spec often. I've not seen many grey Cerbies and there's only going to be limited number of cars prior to the LW headlight mod. Having said that, if you want to brakes/RR potential of a RR then it's a lot of money to spend on 2nd best.....

Have you driven plenty? - you may not find there's much of a gap between the 4.2 and 4.5 anyway.

Whatever, that's one smart looking Cerbie

HHmmmm I think I should bite the bullitt and just go for it. If I wait any longer there will none left to buy, newer models seem to be selling like hot cakes since TVR announced they have stopped production

Are you silly man? .. lmao .. the 4.2 is waaaaaay better than the 4.5 ..

and relax safe in the knowledge you saved 3k on the equivalent 4.5 with no loss of performance. result

If you decide it's not fast enough, you can always get another. Or get it upgraded.

If you've found a car you like, buy it. I wondered the same thing when I bought the 4.2, even after testing 4.5s where I couldn't tell any difference in acceleration. In the end the headlight-blending, sports 'zorst, spiders, and Nitrons became far bigger concerns to me, and I'm bl**dy glad I didn't spend the money that funded them on an extra 300cc engine capacity. (Those trumpets do look tasty, mind...)

JSG how would you compare the performance of your tuscan to your old cerbera and why the swap ?

I've had both 4.5 and 4.2 and can say there's virtually no difference.

If you've found the right colour, interior and extra packages, then buy it quick, cos you can be certain you'll never find another one like it.

Hmmm, I wouldn't, I didn't think that any 2000 LW models had the old headlights. I think most had the seamed pods and a few had the faired in.

I would look closely to make sure that really is a 2000LW.

As for the arguement between 4.5 and 4.2. I would say go for where your heart takes you. I can only say mine went to a 4.5 and I've never thought to reconsider.

I have to say that it's a little expensive. Mail me off line and I'll tell you what I paid for mine from Fernhurst.

Late 2000 4.5 LW with full dealer history 13K.

Cheers,

Rob

I was in a similar postion a month or so ago, was only looking at 4.5s I guess because it was the 4.5!!, but when I drove a 4.2 not only was the performance IMHO indentical but the engine seemed much more responsive and reved much more freely, absolutley delighted with my choice.

JUST DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's about right.

Nah, seriously... Thought it would be a good idea to sell the Cerb and use the money elsewhere. Then as soon as the money was in the bank and the only car on the drive was a 206 I realised something was missing (regular visits to the garage, mainly ). I also knew that keeping the Cerb would cost me a fortune... I had plans for a six-speed gearbox, exterior mods, engine mods, etc. And I had to stop myself from the wallet-depleting experience of funding all that.

My Tuscan's noticeably faster than my old Cerb (loathe to start wars on which is faster - my Tusc is a particularly quick one; one of the main reasons I picked that one). Me & GCerbera did a fair comparison one Sunday a while back - found a stretch of privately owned dual carriageway and put his Cerb 4.5 and the Tusc RR in a straight line sprint. There was nothing in it at all... However, his engine was running a little lumpy, and mine was just finishing being run in (i.e. It was at 1500 miles, so I wasn't pushing it much past 6k RPM and it hadn't loosened up much), so it's not really a scientific test.

In a moment of drunken sincerity on Eurohoon JSG admitted he wished he keep the Cerb. Mind you the Tuscan wasn't his favouite car that night.

So go ahead and get the 4.2 you like.

Very true. That was the day that the clutch packed in in the middle of France, though. And I was still fighting legal battles with the previous owner of the Tusc over it not being the spec it was sold to me as. The car's now running like a dream, and all legal issues are happily resolved.

When it's good, it's very very good. When it's bad, it's horrid.

Its a 2001 car, the reason im interested in it is that it has the original style headlights I don't like the newer speed 12 type design

2001 car with Tuscan seats, yet old style headlights? Hmmm...

We all know what TVR are like for using up stock lying around, but I'd agree with Julian and check this out. RAC says it was registered on 02-Jan-2001, for what it's worth.

I have a couple of cerbies come in with tuscan seats and single front lights .. don't think there's anything sinister in it .. they'll just be *changeover* cars before they did the 4 lamps across the board ..

see here ..

Could be a big difference between making and registering though.
