E46 M3 rear box recommendations.
Discussion
Hi, I took my car for a spin the other day, and I got a bit carried away
.
The result being, I think I may have blown the baffles in the rear box (they were always a bit rattly when cold anyway, so it's probably been on the cards for a while).
Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading to something a bit more meaty sounding, suitable for road use only (I can't see it going on a track whilst in my ownership), and not boomy at motorway speeds.
Any recommendations?
Cheers in advance.

I have a Miltek Cat Back on mine. It's boomy from about 2k to 3k. Its not actually an issue when I'm in the car on my own, only when I give others a lift and they notice it's a bit louder than the beige car they drive everyday...
If you don't want the boomy/droning noise then I reckon you're best sticking to a replacement stock system.

I have the supersprint race on mine, quite a bit more expensive than the miltek but I love the sound. Compare them on youtube. I measured mine with a decimeter app at 102db at 3/4 rpm, so reasonably loud but not too bad!! It does drone at certain engine speeds but I tend to just sit out of that engine speed when on the motorway.
Thanks for the replies. On further investigation, the problem lies with the collar clamps that link the back box with the mid-section.
One has rusted through and fallen off completely and the other needs cutting off with gas by the looks of it. The rattling seems to be coming from the gasket between the two pipes (according to the exhaust centre guy). The exhaust itself looks absolutely fine throughout.
I'm going back down to the exhaust place today to see if the clamp can be removed and new ones fitted.
I like a challenge!

Ive cut out all the baffle etc out of mine. Sounds like normal but when you floor it it's way more noticable.
I was reading about this on M3 Cutters. Quite a weight saving too. If all goes well today, I may buy a used one, such as the one linked above, and have a play with this mod.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
