So Stuart has gone?

Garlick's last post on the forum was the 18th September.

Who's in charge?

Given that this is the 2nd biggest motoring forum in the country with an engaged group of users, surely it's only polite to say hello with an update?

Do you really track the frequency of posting by the PH admin?
Is that not a bit stalkery?

Ask PH - that came off a press release (they told the public, before their engaged users...)

I was curious as I'd not seen a post by Garlick for ages and was aware of Stuart's departure via above press release.

Garlick is on holiday, but will be back in the office tomorrow.

He will be able to explain it better than I, but it is true that Stuart has left and a new executive director has been appointed. You can read more in the aforementioned press release: http://haymarket.com/newsarticle.aspx?news=1143

It is interesting that PH is happy to ship out a Press Release about Stuart's departure without bothering to bring any real attention to it on the forum.

This isn't the happy ship it was a year or so back. More and more people I know are telling me that they don't post these days, some that they don't even bother with the place anymore. It's not important to Haymarket to keep the forum a happy place as their real interest is in the car sales ads.

There are plenty of Members about these days but it is hader to find people who you can rely on to usually talk sense from those who are just members wink

I definitely feel that PH has changed, I used to frequent a lot of the sub forums (e.g. news or the lounge) but they've gone down hill in my estimation.

Shame.

Confusing press release.

Not only badly written, but essentially says, we have hired someone that has a track record of driving revenue growth of 300%, replacing someone who drove revenue growth by three fold. And no quotes from Stuart.

Shame for Stuart given his personal investment in PH - my assumption is he has been headhunted and will pop up imminently elsewhere.

No doubt this thread will be locked in line with "discuss nothing related to moderation or Haymarket"

The mood recently is definately different, and not for the better.

Very interested to know where Stuart has gone. And equally interesting that the future is seen as being all about the classifieds which, whilst undoubtedly the cash cow, rely to a great extent IMHO on the overall quality of the site for their credibility.

Let's face it the forums are the differentiator from Autotrader. Given they take so many feeds inbound, one might say the overall package is better...

Back from holidays, sorry for my absence. I took a short break ahead of throwing myself into PH and starting all the work we have planned.

There are a few changes afoot but in seriousness they are probably the most exciting we have had for many a year. I remain here and will focus on the forums and community...basically enhancing what we offer and providing better integration with other parts of the site as well as easier to follow moderation guidelines, a host of new events, a more solid platform and reintroducing things like search. In addition I'll be here to ensure editorial remains true to site values and that we don't lose sight of what makes us great.

Expect things to be improved almost immediately with a much better way of including you (all of you) in the decision making process. Watch this space for updates.

We do have a new man here at HQ called Lee Williams who will not (at least initially) be as visible on the forums as much as me. Lee brings many years of classified experience and will help to make our offering as good as it can be and will help us make it as user friendly, stable and responsive as we know it can be. He knows his stuff, and that's an understatement, so expect great things in the short and long term.

While I will obviously work with Lee on that my main focus will be to make the community stronger and better without losing sight of what has kept me here for almost 8 years.

The press release was, with all fairness, perhaps too biased to the classifieds but when you take into account that Lee offers such experience in that area it's not hard to see why that was so important to us. Stuart has gone to explore new things and I'm sure (hope) we'll hear from him again in the future.

In the meantime we're working hard to deliver realistic, on brand and relevant changes that will enhance the community without losing any of the familiar feel. It's all to look forward to as far as I can see, a real return to positive change and development.

Really hope that the changes are positive. We are a mardy, stroppy lot in here but have a real affection for the place. You and the team have done a good job of keeping it in line with the ethos Ted seemed to have, just please don't let it get too much out of hand and/or diverse in the application of the rules. At the minute it seems that you can fairly much be as rude and trollish as you like in NP&E (there are 3 or 4 very well practiced 'baiters' out there at the minute) yet tell someone their mother smells of elderberries in SP&L and it's off the thread or Forum for a good long look at yourself.
