F10 Winter Tyres
Discussion
Chaps,
Anyone got a plan? I'm running 20" and there are no BMW approved tyres for that alloy size.
- though tyredevotion did find 2 rears in Slovakia and 2 fronts in Germany.
Anyway, sounds like I ought to buy a set of 19" rims for £3k inc tyres.
Any thoughts greatfully appreciated.
Regards
Paul

Hi Paul,
Living in the NE of Scotland winters are not an option. For that reason we stuck with the standard 19" rims which seem to offer a reasonable choice of winter tyres. I was disappointed to find the 18" BMW winter tyre/rims we own for the e60 dont fit the F10. I would not mind a second set of 19" rims but dont think I can justify the additional cost.
Have you found any good aftermarket wheel choices or are you looking at OEM?
Cheers
Simon

I wouldn't worry about BMW approved....as long as they are the right size, tyre load etc. They do sell 20" winter tyres for the X5 though clearly they are a very different size. It makes no sense to have 20" anyway.....in Europe you never see cars on big wheel sizes with winter tyres on.Anyone got a plan? Simon, I'm also in the NE of Scotland but with a F11. For info, I'm using my previous OEM 18" E61 winter wheels on my F11. They fit perfectly and have a slightly more aggressive offset, 7mm or so. Not enough to cause any problems, in fact they will the arches better. 19" rims are kept for the summer. I was disappointed to find the 18" BMW winter tyre/rims we own for the e60 dont fit the F10.
Cheers

18" will unfortunately not fit an F10 M5Apologies, didn't realise this was the ///M Forum.
Although I don't see why it wouldn't work. The E61 offset results in the wheels sticking out 7mm more than my standard setup. Putting M5 wheels on my car means 8mm more. So the offset when calculated against the width must be near identical, don't just look at the offset number.

Just worked out the fronts.
Standard front 20" M5 rims which are 9" wide ET34. The front E60 wheels are 8" ET 20.
You would therefore have 27mm more inner clearance at they would only extend out by 1mm.
Unless it's the brake size and you can't fit 18's?? Quite possible. Or the difference in the rolling circumference... that's a different calculation. But offsets and widths don't look a problem.

Does any one know if Conti winter tyres - rear 275/30/19 & front 245/35/19 would be a good fit for the standard M5 19" wheels which are:
265/40-19
295/35-19
My concern is that they may be a little too narrow but to maximise winter grip I want to go as narrow as possible safely. Dunno how it might look

If you're going for a narrower winter tyre you need to go up in profile, not down, in order to keep the rolling circumference about the same as factory.265/40-19

To keep this as close as possible you want,
235/45 19 fronts
255/40 19 rears
although believe BMW recommend a square set up using 255/40 19.

OP, here's an option for you,

Why? Once you get beyond hatchback sized tyres it's grip on top of the snow you're interested in. If it's just slush any size good wet weather tyre should be fine.Edited by goldblum on Friday 25th October 22:31

Thanks for the help, my main concern is matching tyre widths to OEM 19" Rim width. I will check out those links and see if I can find any reference to what BMW recommend for the standard alloys. To keep this as close as possible you want,

Anybody know if 255/40's will do the job on OEM 19" rim?
