Aaaargh, how much is a (non existent) sat nav worth then?

Parked the car for an hour earlier today and returned to find the side window smashed
Its 5y old and utterly non de-script
No valuables on display, built in radio and crappy nav hence not even suction marks on screen to give away evidence of a mount
Glove box open, nothing taken mainly because THERES FECKING NOTHING TO STEAL IN THE FECKING CAR

AAAAARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Bill to me and insurance ££ but mostly hassle and aggravation of getting it repaired

Location pretty busy, plenty of passing traffic and footfall including the nice lady who stayed behind to tell me it was 2 shifty looking blokes in a blue car but she didnt think to take their reg number - wtf????????
(In fairness prob on false plates)

The upshot is that they were probably looking for a sat nav
They put themselves through moderate risk doing this in broad daylight and Im honestly wondering how much the risk is worth financially down the Dog and Duck or at crash converters??

The philosophical pert of me is grateful they are doing this not mugging me at knifepoint in dark alleyways, fear not the PH side of my brain has many other creative fates for them.....

Cheers - police incident logged, waiting for call back....

So they broke in and din't nick anything? bds. How much is a new window? I wouldn't put it through insurance, I would replace the glass myself. Not worth the potential hike in premiums.

If there is nothing worth nicking and you have chip in key immobiliser, leave it open.
I know loads of people lock there cars only to come back finding smashed locks broken windows and a load of hassle and expense and nothing stolen.
It's usually a smack head looking to get a quick £20 for a stolen sat nav to buy drugs.
Best thing to do is leave a broken ipod I'm the glove box, they will nick that without damaging your car and they will be long gone.
I can't imagine leaving my convertable locked and coming back to a slashed roof £1000's

It's not just Sat Navs. Anything that looks like a nav is taken. We have axle weight indicators on some of our vans and the display unit looks like a crap nav. We've had some of them stolen.

They broke into my wife's car and nicked the USB cable and cigarette charger which was in the glovebox. Probably worth a quid. It seems anything is fair game if it isn't nailed down.

This is why I'm for electrocution security methods on cars.

Hell, all my cars are worth so little to anyone else I've been tempted to leave them unlocked.
However, what if some scrote, annoyed there's noting to pilfer, gets the dog and lets the handbrake off and pushes the car into traffic/ bustop/ Nuns Admiring Kittens Convention? You'd be liable, insurance wise?

Maybe I'm having a thick day but are you saying they've stolen your built-in satnav? How is this possible, as the bits are usually strewn all about the car.

Used to work in a second hand shop (CEX) and we regularly had shady people coming in with Sat-Navs that looked freshly stolen, they quickly disappeared when we asked for ID to prove who they were. We also offered so little for them (about £20) so people must really be desperate....

Also, can anyone else see the irony of stealing something that tracks your location?

I think the ops car has a crappy built in nav, but they were looking for a hand held and didn't touch the built in one.

I've had my window smashed to take the umbrella of the rear shelf because it was raining frown
Now I make sure to leave it hidden in the boot.

Some idiot caused nearly £3k of damage stealing the screen for the parking sensors.

Completely useless, greyscale LCD screen.

They really are very very thick, probably why they steal things in the first place.

I had my prescription glasses stolen. Only useful to someone with the same eyesight as me.

Not too long ago I left my passenger window completely open in the car park at work (overflow car park for a shopping centre). It was like it for 10 hours, sunglasses in centre console, iPod in glovebox (unlocked), and a few bits and pieces in the boot. Nothing was stolen and the car was fine, no attempt to move it or break in. I think I was lucky to get away with that one.

Absolutely cacked it for a moment when I got back to the car and realised what I'd done...

Not worth very much at all. Whenever ive been offered electronics its around £20 for a phone, £5 for a sat nav/headunit/speakers/most other misc stuff. They know they cant sell it to any shops so the value drops.

Many years ago Dad had an Austin Princess which was broken into. For some obscure reason the seat belt clasps were stolen (the bits between the 2 front seats). Most odd.

If it helps I had a Merc Sprinter...

It was full of rubbish for a tip run so I didn't lock the side / rear doors

Morons decided to break in... they obviously didn't actually try the bloody handle.

They smashed the side door handle and lock and dented the door trying to pry it open and still failed to get in !

I have no idea how they remember to breathe - but I wish they wouldn't.
