body - chassis exchange
Discussion
Hi..Not sure about putting a 280i FHC body shell onto an A frame or V8 chassis but someone did fit a Ford 302 5.0ltr into a 280i chassis some time ago..(Before i was a PH member)..Im not sure if there was any major mods needed but might be worth considering...I believe there is also an Aerostar 4.0ltr V6 that might be a possibility...Cheers...Ziga
If you have the V8 chassis then the 5.0 Griff Serp RV8 engine is the way to go ... Did mine!! Speak to Hallsie on here he has a chassis!!
As to Ford / Chevvy V8 transplants do not underestimate the level of fabrication and strengthening needed, not to mention, clutch gearbox, electrics, plumbing and drive train requirements.
I would have thought that a 280 body could be made to fit the the later 350 chassis with some fettling. To be honest weigh up the pros and cons with the likely costs vSv selling the existing car and going for an entry level 390 / 400SE

The F...
problem in Belgium is to get the car passed the MOT.
If I use the chassis of a V6 and put a V8 into it...it wil never pass the MOT.
If I use the chassis of a V8 (with the trailing arm rear suspension)I don't think it will cope with the brutal force of a 5.0l V8?
Using a V8 chassis (with A-frame rear suspension)together with a 5.0l V8 & a fhc body seems to be the best solution??
It is just an idee
but perhaps reality into the future

In a word- Yes! Let it be, Zig. It might be the oldest surviving 280.
