Main one for me was people being upset when overtaken if they're doing the speed limit. Arrgghh queing doesn't apply on the roads you set of numpties!

boy racers speeding off at the lights and arrogant sports car drivers all cause upset on the road
Pathetic, no doubt these are people who pull away from lights changing up gear at 1500rpm and suffer the green eyed monster whenever they see someone who has a better car than them.

Getting the car serviced also makes the cut. Extraordinary. Maintenance is much less irritating than breakdown and failures caused by the lack of it.

I think that just about covers everything you're likely to encounter on the road.

I've calmed down from what I was like in my youth, but the one thing that really, really fks me off no end is when people don't at least acknowledge you when you have stopped to let people onto your side of the road to get past parked cars on theirs. Made even more infuriating when they misread the gap and you have to slow down/emergency stop for them to get back on their side of the road and they just drive past, completely oblivious to what they've done. 90% of the time it's a middle to old aged woman behind the wheel of the other car.

Late brakers? If they weren't so fecking close in to the car in front to begin with this wouldn't really cause any stress, just mild irritation.
Also they blame 'other motorists' most people should probably look at their own driving style before blaming everyone else.

Lack of indication and impolite people I give way to are top of my list.

Where's the list?
I see getting a car serviced is one, so you can be fairly sure the surveyed people aren't the cream of high society.

Dear Hoddy910,

Overtaking within the speed limit is a useful, legitimate, highway code sanctioned action.
Overtaking above the speed limit falls into the category of "doing something you shouldn't be doing in order to gain an advantage over everyone else". It therefore pisses people off.

What possible part of that do you find numptyish or difficult to understand?

That's where your fundamental outlook on life is flawed. You'd be a far nicer person if you got that out of your head.

"this means they spend up to 208 hours at the wheel each year, or almost nine days"

Lovely of DM to reuse this stat, to flesh our their article.

AFAIK it's OK to exceed the speed limit temporarily to overtake someone travelling at, or just below it. Especially if they're a lane hogging, Daily Mail reader who's feeling a bit stressed and could swerve into any lane at any second or brake for no apparent reason; and you don't especially feel like sitting behind them for the duration of your journey.

And I wonder how many of those offended by people overtaking are doing only 60mph on a (barrier split) dual carriageway because they saw an NSL sign?

Just shows that the people who dont like 'late brakers' are just driving to the car in front rather than looking ahead. If they were driving propely, they would already be on the brakes.

I despair about the average British driver. As I do most days...

My one pet hate is people that do one speed regardless of the limit/ conditions (Usually 40mph)

60mph limit on a dry day with good visibility? "Nah I'll do 40"
30mph limit on a wet day with dense fog "Nah I'll do 40"

It just represents a complete and utter lack of understanding when it comes to adapting your driving to the challenges/restrictions placed upon you.

Interesting notion. Genuinely. But you'll have to explain further if you want to teach me anything.

You contend that choosing to disregard the speed limit it times when you know you can get away with it is not giving you an advantage? I can see two big advantages.
1. You'd get everywhere quicker
2. It would be great fun

I would like to buzz past everyone, but I don't because I know we have limits for a reason. It's annoying when other people don't hold them self to the same standard - and they are gaining the two advantages stated above. Seems very simple to me.

Where is the flaw in the logic?
