As a van driver, I covered around 1500 miles per week, and have seen most types of vehicles that have been stopped by the police, this includes a horse drawn carriage, and a milk float.

But I have never seen a bus pulled over, have you?

And what is the strangest thing you have seen stopped?

Happened to me on a school trip when I was younger.

I couldnt have been more grateful as I'd drank far too much and was bursting.

Yes, maybe twice in the last year I have seen busses pulled over for jumping red lights. This is in the City of London.

I've often wondered whether the bus drivers are given punctuality targets that cause them to take this risk, because I see it a lot. It's very dangerous, especially in built-up areas where traffic and pedestrians are coming from all sides.

I have. Single decker bus for speeding was on it 5yrs ago in Manchester. It was on a 40 mile zone from swinton going to little hulton. Driver told them he was behind schedule was trying to catch up, but police let him go after that lecture about 'getting passengers safe is to their destination is whats important than endangering their lives ctc'. Passengers weirdly some of them were annoyed with the police for pulling the bus.

I was on a bus a few years ago that got tugged.
The driver went through a amber light and it went red as the bus was halfway through.
The copper went apest. The bus driver said that to stop for the light would have been an emergancy stop. And considering the bus was packed, with lots of people standing, could have resulted in injury.
I have no idea of the outcome, but the copper was going to report the driver apparantly.

2 years ago my partner was on a bus that crashed into a Vauxhall Corsa that pulled out of a junction without looking. The bus driver did not brake hard at all, he braked gently and used the impact with the car to slow the bus down.

When the car driver went ape at the driver for not braking hard he simply said how many teeth are worth knocking out for the sake of your crappy car?

I understood this well, buses don't have seatbelts and in an emergency stop people can smack their heads and faces into the seat in front, and also standing passengers can suffer injuries

A blind friend on the back of a tandem was once pulled for excessive speed down Glastonbury High Street.

I've been on one! Just recently in fact. Last month the bus got pulled by a following police car for cutting up a lorry on the A9 at the Dunblane turn off.

Police car followed it into Dunblane and had a word with the driver.
