What would be the "wiser" buy...

GOLF GTD - lease 23 months £225 with £1200 depost

or

FFRR TDV8 overfinch @ £18,500 125k miles

ive always bought big cars but was intrigued by leasing (especially a little go cart) which seems to be where many people are going although I don't do much miles circa 7k per annum in urban traffic.

I had a FFRR before and loved it but wondered if maybe plonking £18.5k into such "heavy metal" (2006 MY) in today's economic climate may be a recipe for disaster.

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Define the word "Wiser". They're completely different propositions. The Golf is brand new (can you really get a GTD for £225 per month?) and will have a manufactures warranty.
The Range Rover is 7 years old and has the ability to generate large bills. It also requires you to part with £18.5K, and will cost twice as much to fuel.

You'll have to think about your priorities a bit...

I mean financially, just not i want to be dipping back into the st MPG and £500 Road Tax again but loved the drive of the FFRR and I think the car on offer with the overfinch bits will have some traction should I sell..

I have ordered the GTD on lease for £182 + VAT which has just arrived but I haven't signed the line just yet....I've never kept a car longer than 1yr and the thought of having something for so long then handing it back 23 months later worries me smile

still 69MPG will be real cheap to run!

The reason I thought about a lease car in the 1st place was because I found selling high mileage luxury cars quite difficult for the first time...took me 5 months to sell my 635d which was worrying!

Plenty leasing companies have GTD's for that price.

£219 inc VAT + inital payment of £1300ish inc VAT.

Is that really correct ?
If so if you add up total lease costs and deposit it works out to be £266pcm all in.

There are few cars which depreciate less than £3 k a year used unless its vey very old - that's worry free motoring.

Parkers reckons about £25k new or a manual GTD, and a 3 year value at about £14k, so guess a 2 year old value of about £16-17k or £8-9k depreciation? Plus servicing costs etc.

Leasing for the same period of time for under £6.5k sounds a bloody fantastic deal.

Drive the deal doing them for £22k so sounds about right.

That makes a bit more sense, I'd usualy expect leasing for a couple of years to be similar cost to owning outright as I assume the lease companies make a chunk of thier money from getting good deals due to bulk buying.

My car (MY2006) cost £5K four years ago and is still going strong, only 90,000 miles.

The biggest concern here is surely the bork factor of the FFRR?
One big problem and you could have a four figure bill, which would skew the "which is best" argument a fair bit ?
