In need of advice. I have an on going issue with a none standard cooling fan set up that was in the car when i bought it. I have decided to take out the mess and start again with the standard dual fan set up. I have the dual fans in place each with a black and red wire. The otter switch is in the swirl pot and the wiring in the loom for the fans, 2 black and what looks like 2 brown wires, poking from the bottom of the radiator. I cannot see any wiring to the otter switch what so ever. What I need is a diagram/explanation on how to connect it all together....in laymans terms please as i'm no electrician. I have all the parts in place but not the wiring.

I believe the two brown wires should go live (12v) if you short out the otter switch ... check that they do.

If so then you feed one of the browns to each fans red wire and then take each fans black wire to a chassis ground.

Cheers

They are solid pink from the relays in the fusebox to the fan connectors, there will be a thin green/pink stripe wire from the otter switch to the fusebox (grounds the relay to switch on the fans).

guys thanks for the input so far, still scratching my head though. Spend you are right, after cleaning the dirt off the 'brown' wires I see they are actually pink. So up to now both pink wires from the loom go to each of the fans reds wires. The fans black wires go to ground via the chassis. Now...How does the otter switch tie in? I have found a black wire in tubing that is lying near the distributer not connected to anything. This goes back through what looks to be the bulk head drivers side...It looks to be the right length for otter switch connection but not sure. Looks like i need two wires off the otter switch to go somewhere though? Thanks all.

Hi,

gone through this myself. There should be 2 wires in the engine bay loom that connect to the otter switch. I found they exited out of the corrigated loom conduit in the area under the coil/alternator (serpentine engine). On the rover engine they connected to the otter switch in the thermostat housing for A/C. I found my wires had been cut back, both were black IIRC. I assume TVR extended them, one using green/pink wiring the other black. With ignition on, if you short the otter wires this should activate the fan relay/s (you might be able to hear a click from the fuse box area), you should then get 12V between the pink and black wires to the fans.

Live to the relay coil is embedded in the fusebox (shared with horn fuse typically) and it grounds via the otter switch:

There is a thin gauge green/pink wire from the fusebox to the otter switch, and the other spade on the otter switch to ground (black).

When the otter switch goes closed circuit the relay coil circuit is made and the big power is switched in the relay(s) to power up the big pink wires to the fans.

Getting there ! Im going to give this a good look over today. One thing I did miss was the other two black wires that come from the loom under the radiator. the pink ones go to the two red ones on the fans and the black fan wires going to earth but were do the two black wires go that are along side the two pink ones in the loom......Cheers.

Great stuff. Thanks everyone. I seem to have all the info now. My electricians head is on and hopefully so will the cooling fans after a bit of fettling.
