I'm going through emotional turmoil and a a problem shared and all that....

I have Estorils on my car that I am planning on refurbish over the winter OR should I break from the standard look and buy some 17” wheels instead?

I truly am torn between originality and larger wheels with better grip and the option of bigger brakes underneath.

Comments most welcome.

I went for a set of SP12's for these reasons (in order or importance) -
1. Choice of decent tyres is much better - I'm on Conti Sport Contact 3's which are far better than anything I could find in standard sizes.
2. I think they suit the Chim shape perfectly (don't like them on Griffs).
3. They have allowed for a brake upgrade to fit without any worries.

As a bonus they are slightly lighter than Estorils (according to my bathroom scales) and relatively cheap 2nd hand. I do have a full set of 16" Estorils to put back on though if ever need to sell the car.

Ok, I will.

More grip = more fun + safety.

We know you can't go fast on our roads, cameras, hidden plod and downright bad drivers abound but taking roundabouts and bends where it's safe gives a little pleasure.

Sooo, a tasteful wheel with good quality rubber is where it's at!

I never said mine were tasteful!

Why not get your Estorils powder coated in shadow chrome, then I can see what they look like before I have mine done biggrin

Me too and you can still have some sideways fun too wink

Mine are 17's all round, need some new front tyres with a bigger sidewall but the rears work great, not 100% on 18" rears

Definately a good price, if they were silver/anthracite I'd be tempted - will the 9" rear fit ok though?

Dropped them down to £360 .. Yes 9" are fine but I would not go any wider than 245`s

Quit a few are running 9" on the rear.

I think there is something to be said for keeping 15/16" - the extra tyre definitely gives a level of comfort and I think it still looks more suited to the car. You can still fit big tyres, I have 225 front 245 rear.

The brake issue is a 'non-issue' - although yes there are more options to fit anything you want inside 17+ - there are options available for 15/16" - and I still think that the brakes on some cars look 'lost' inside bigger wheels, especially on the rear.

Daz,

If you lived closer I'd probably have them. Fancy a drive to around Birmingham area to meet me halfway?
