Two 'new' cars from Aston; the 510bhp DB9.2 and the 565bhp Vanquish 2.
Big price difference, big power difference otherwise much the same; variable dampers, CC brakes, 6 speed auto TouchTronic II ZF gearbox.
As of today we know that the power can be levelled out between the two cars as they both carry the same engine; Vanq II has 545bhp from the factory, not 565bhp as claimed and the DB9.2 can be cleverly adjusted by Bamford Rose to match that straight away electroncally. And then obviously exceed it with the addition of their V12 manifolds, catalyts and high lift cams.
Add the same BR equipment to both cars and they are both genuine 580bhp+ GT cars, but one is vastly cheaper. If you're in the market (I'm not) which do you go for? It comes down to looks and toys now; are the Vanquishes raft of changes over the DB9.2 worth that extra money now Bamford Rose have levelled out the power levels? It's I suppose a question of irrelevance for most of us, I personally think it's cheeky of Aston martin to launch a car with an intentionally detuned engine just to justify a much higher price of the car with the normal state of tune.
I do like the Vanquish integrated tail lid spoiler though
For me, I'd have the DB9.2 and a Boxster with the change. Amazing when you think of it like that

The result is in, Vesuvius project is complete minus a couple of carbon additions, and right now Vesuvius sits dormant waiting the Millbrook handover event tomorrow.
The result.....
well, a mighty fine torque and power increase....

The all important power stakes are as follows;
P1 - Cavendish @ 582 BHP
P2 - Vesuvius @ 571 BHP
P3 - Lance @ 570 BHP hear you coming in the next county loud cats / 565 BHP sensible exhaust note cats
Vesuvius drives like mild manner gent in non sport mode, all quiet and sophisticated, but in animal mode, I mean Sports mode... he's now a complete rocket ship, roars on the throttle, crackles off the throttle and the engine punches revs to his new limit of 7500rpm
Based on principal airflow in equals torque out, both Vesuvius and Cavendish were line on line the same. Cavendish being slightly more airflow than lance and lance being a few BHP down on Cavendish sanity checks the power rankings status. This means Vesuvius has more BHP than lance, and Vesuvius does feel quicker on the road than Lance did. But whilst Vesuvius shares same airflow as Cavendish, me thinks Vesuvius motor is a little tight because Vesuvius having a lot fewer miles than Cavendish, and in the miles to come Vesuvius will loosen up to the power level of Cavendish.
For comparison;

Power is one thing, but there can never be enough shots of the beautiful lines of the DB9.2 And for those that want classic looks, that's what's so great about this project - the classic body can now be had with the halo engine power output figure too..!!

Very nice! I'd probably go for the DB9.2, personally I just think it looks better. I'd be very tempted to take some of the money saved and try to have a manual gearbox put into it either by Works Service or BR, and/or go the 6.5L route.
Honestly I thought they would end up with more bhp from the Vanq II. No doubt we'll see a 600hp Vanq from them sometime soon.

The older V12 can BR get the same power out of these as the new V12s Is it not the same engine?
No it doesn't have the knock control and a few other things, hence why Vesuvius & Cavendish have more power than Lance.I don't like the Vanquish front lip and interior, the DB9.2 is MUCH cleaner and better looking
So no brainer for me
If performance can be equalled, then surely it's all down to looks ??
The Old Vanquish and DBS boys will no doubt go for the more Masculine and aggressive look of the New Vanquish.
DB9ers will stick to what appealed to them in the first place, the Feminine and sleek look of the New DB9.
It all boils down to whether you prefer being inside a Female or a Male.
Just Saying

I am definitely in touch with my female side but also like aggressive looking cars so I'm now confused. The Old Vanquish and DBS boys will no doubt go for the more Masculine and aggressive look of the New Vanquish.

Knock control so it can advanace/retard spark to make the most of premium fuels, VCT (variable camshaft timing) and a new and much cleverer and more expensive ECU system. A much more modern engine, bang up to 20th century technology
It's why even though the DBS and DB9.s are both rated at 510bhp, the DB9.2 has much more torque. Now BR have cracked it, they can make the DB9.2 engine run the same power as the Vanquish

As awesome as the DBS is, it is l;ast generation tech now on the engine front. But of course BR can still give it 570bhp... which is nice

You like butch females then?
Anyway with your track record and lack of experience........
To go back on topic.
I am not totally convinced about the styling details of the new Vanquish specifically the spoiler and the elaborate seat detail.
I am a fan of the DBS and the DB9.2.
I think the most satisfying styling is that of the old Vanquish which I think exemplifies the Aston image.
I quite like the new Zagato albeit the rear spoiler is a bit OTT.
The Db7 Zagato is also a great looking motor.
