What turbos on a 993 GT2 evo racecar?
Discussion
Anyone know what the turbos were used on the gt2 racers of the late '90's, and when did the power start.
I have a a pair of KKK 27's which don't get going till 5,000 rpm and am looking at either garrett gt 28's or 30, (issues with cooling these with water or oil cooling I am sure will overwhelm my scavange pumps that always seem an issue, or down size to k24's or k26's.
The GT2's always looked and sounded like they were on it a lot earlier than 5,000, and I know the kkk's may be a bit old school compared to the garrett and mitsubishi units out there, but so what, I am not lapping the nurburgring!

The 993 GT2 racers did not use K27s, the K27 is quite an old fashioned external wastegate blower (like the K26) in fact the GT2s used a K24 based internal wastegate unit with the internal wastegate being an important part of the mix being controlled by the Motronic allowing accurate boost control for a better spread of knock controlled torque with as you point out an early delivery of torque and a relatively low peak torque ~3500 - 4500rpm depending on cylinder capacity.I have a a pair of KKK 27's which don't get going till 5,000 rpm and am looking at either garrett gt 28's or 30, (issues with cooling these with water or oil cooling I am sure will overwhelm my scavange pumps that always seem an issue, or down size to k24's or k26's.

The final iteration for racing GT2s was a K24/26 (ie 26 sized compressor wheel) and now days one can use the more modern versions of K24/26 which can be altered to fit the 993 set up. I have a version of K24/26 on both a 993 (uses a 996 turbo like the Ruf RTs) and on my 997 GT2 the latter makes full boost and 900NM by 3000rpm and can flow enough for 800PS @ 1.1bar boost so KKK is far from old tech

We have two 993 GT2 Rs one at very origional spec with K24s and restrictors which gives it about 500 bhp in cool conditions and with a bit of heal soak etc down to about 485 which is great a the car has run reliably for many seasons ( it ran again last weekend )Big boost and K27 s can be used for fun and were in GT1 spec but it can be costly .
The other car we built our own engine and on the rolling road got 580 bhp at 0.8 bar on k24s without the FIA restrctor which we reduced to make its class in Britcar . Sadly as we did not have the inconel manifolds during the 24 it lost boost due to holing in the manifold and hence most of the time we were down on power but finished an interesting race on the podium .
by the way we ahve run it on the Nordschliefe ........ exciting , and we have fitted a sequential to the car which Porsche said could not be done wwhich ahs been completely relaible

Back in 2004 / 2005 we ran a Factory 993 GT2 Evo with Rook mods. The car was an ex LeMans works Rook entry.
Porsche Factory Motorsport Division were very helpful and were happy to answer many different questions over the telephone.
We had turbo issues and had to replace them we ordered direct from the Porsche Factory Motorsport Division see Porsche part numbers below. Cost back in 2005 was 877 euros each.
Turbocharger right hand side porsche part number: 993 123 014 84
Turbocharger left hand side porsche part number: 993 123 013 84
I know they were kkk but I can not remember which model but you can probably find out with this part number.
When we used to deal with the Porsche Factory Motorsport Division we would speak with Herr Kienle I am not sure if is still there or retired now but if he is still about he speaks perfect English and is very very helpful.
