Leica V Lux 40

Does anyone have a v lux 40? I am on the look out for one but most places seem to be out of stock. Is it very popular?

I got one 18 months ago just as they superseded the vlux-30, from Harrison cameras in Sheffield.

It for me is the perfect pocket camera.
long zoom, super close up, image stabilization, Panorama, GPS, HD video, Low light capability,
touch screen........... it goes on

it's really easy to use once you're familiar with it.

down side the battery on average will last 200 pics so a spare is needed.
large cropping of pictures does show significant "grain" when compared
to the same crop on a pic from my D7000.

It's a TZ30 with a little red badge on it, and a different colour menu.
The only difference might be in-camera processing for SOOC jpegs, but if you shoot RAW and process yourself, I'd be extremely surprised if you could notice any difference between the two that aren't attributable to production variance.

Personally, I'd look more at the Fujifilm X20 or Sony RX100, unless there's some genuine need for a 20x optical zoom on a small sensor?

200 pics lol

is that not enough, I had trouble on holiday with film filling up 24 shots back in the day :-)

200 pics is a lot of pics, if you think about what you are taking.

At least most pub dwellers will know what a "Sony" is, you try telling them you've a "Leica", and they'll look at you as if you've horns on your head!

I remember ........... 3 rolls of 24, down to boots the day after the holiday waiting to see the results.



thankfully we can now snap away more freely.

200 can easily be reached when bracketing, panoramas, low light blurs, 10 fps, video etc.
the screen, zoom and flash all take its toll on the battery life.

it was a bit of a surprise as I was used to the 1000's I can take on the D7000

as for just being a red dot ........ I enjoy seeing it every time I use the camera.

I always thought Stella Artois put it well. Not necessarily any better but: 'Reassuringly expensive'!
