I have the opportunity to buy a new Becker traffic pro single din unit, old dealer stock and not a lot of money. I will have it anyway as my current one is a bit tired, but are they actually any good? Or are they well rated because they are in Porsche and Ferrari models?

The unit is a Becker traffic pro, with satnav (that is probably not too much use as the stereo is fairly old)

Very nice bits of kit! No fancy gimmicks, flashing displays etc, etc. Wonderful smile

It's going in a 96 Audi S6 avant, so should suit fairly well

They were certainly very good in 1983 when my Dad got one thrown in free by a Mercedes dealer as compensation for them messing up delivery of a car. He had that for all of my childhood and then some. It always sounded great and never missed a beat.

No use to you though, as I've got no experience of them since then.

Design wise I think they were the best on the market. Great ergonomics, no useless flashing lights and integrate well with older cars due the the very OEM look.

I've got a Grand Prix 7992 with the ipod kit (I guess this only works with older ipods). It plays mp3 discs and has an excellent twin RDS tuner. Sound quality is good. Only problem is that it's just sat in its box as I can't bear to lose the steering wheel controls in my E39- unless of course someone out there knows of a way to make them work with it? Here's hoping before I ebay it.

Shame Becker decided to withdraw from the market.

Standard equipment in Porsche of the time.

I put a traffic pro in my 996 as it matched the factory fit CD interchanger and gave me voice control nav and it worked great. Nav was only arrows and voice but from a single DIN, what can you expect.

My review is back on page 1 or 2 of the satnav section of PH. If you know an easy way to get there it maybe useful.

Got a Becker Indianapolis pro in our merc a lovely piece of kit with Bluetooth ipod and basic nav too and lovely understated looks .
The only thing I don't like is the nav on mine is only 5 digits max so it wont do quick complete postcode stuff like tomtom or garmin, but I wonder if I bought new maps if that would sort it?
