Just wondered if other PHers had OHs who were into cars; mine certainly isn't, and does not understand why I like particular cars, for example:

Lotus Carlton: "it's a rattly old Vauxhall"
Williams Clio: "chavvy little hatchback"
MK1 MR2: "old rust buckets"

although I have convinced her that pop up headlights are the coolest thing ever. So what's it like for other PHers?

My wife and I have similar tastes in cars. She's less inclined to drive hard now that she's a mother, but still likes the same sorts of cars as me.

My wife knows her cars quiet well. Loves Motorsport and moto GP, bsb and WSB

But would not lust after a say a nice 1990 Porsches like or wish to have a V8 engine car sat in th garage

No, definitely not. In January she sold a Hyundai to buy a Mini, but that's as far as it goes. She hates me revving it above 5000 rpm, which is where all the power is... She doesnt understand spending money on a car to maintain it, and that if it isn't picked up at the annual MOT, it's not worth worrying about.

In short, the complete opposite to me!

No though she gets that I'm into them & does her best to indulge me.

I guess like anything in life you see what your OH enjoys & do your bit to help them enjoy it-last time we went to Spa for me to do a track day I took her shopping & got her a designer handbag, cue 2 happy people smile

Hmm, not really but has had two original Fiat 500s and a Volvo T5, she doesn't share my taste as a rule but liked my 944 as it had character apparently, she drives probably better than me, is confident and sensible, she has zero interest in cleaning or maintaining them. She likes whatshe likes, loves the C1 as it suits the driving she does but appreciates cars with more power but doesn't necessarily use it very often, along as there is enough then that's plenty.

Kind of tolerates my obsession.

Yes and its not always good, having to shuffle cars around in the morning so she can take the one she wants !.

Monday 1.6 Capri
Tuesday Caterham
Weds Caterham
Thursday Defender 110
Friday 2.8 Capri Special.

All have to be warmed up prior to leaving as she drives like a car thief !.

Also being an engineer I get a list from her of Jobs that need doing !.

Yes and its fantastic, shes been into cars for as long as i have known her, her dad was a Subaru man and is now into his Jags so i think this is where she has gotten it from.

She has also been known to occasionally ask that if we move in together we need to get something fast. smile

And i have on occasion seen her browsing the PH classifieds.

My wife never used to be a car person. When I met her a car was simply a tool for getting from A to B. Nothing more.

However, I got her a BMW 1-series, then a 3-series and now she has her favourite car, a Mini Cooper S and she appreciates and enjoys cars for driving, not just for getting about.

She enjoys off-roading too on safari in Southern Africa - happy to get stuck in. She likes my Porsche but still thinks the acceleration is too "violent" if Launch Control is engaged.

Some of you are so damn lucky! My OH is entirely intolerant of any car-related discussion, even though my father-in-law is quite keen. She is relatively tolerant though, so it could be worse!

Yes. She's onto her second V8 Jaguar now, a lovely XF 5.0 S Portfolio.

Although she thinks my Monaro is too noisy, too fast and too agricultural (ie manual). hehe
