Anyone got a driveshaft?
Discussion
Relative came around the other day and I took him out in the Cerb (4.2 97P). 'Is it reliable?' he asked. 'Well I've had no problems...'
15 minutes later after one standing start, we were at the side of the road ringing the RAC as the car had no drive...!
Anyway with car up on ramps and car in gear the prop turns, but only one wheel turns and either the CV joint or driveshaft has failed. Have ordered the CV joint from joospeed (top service by the way and super helpful) but I also need a driveshaft.
Anyone got a Cerbera driveshaft?
Looks like I've opened my account then!

DV are my back up if all else fails (but they want a small fortune). The diff appears ok and joolz reckons that these BTR items (from Australia apparently) are rated for 800bhp and very rarely fail.
In any case, I can see the driveshaft spinning in the boot and it waggles up and down about three inches so something has gone. Before I strip it down though, want all the parts to hand, though. Even if the driveshaft is okay the splines might be damaged - I've seen that before on previous cars.

Take it apart you big woose. Its half off already
. I did this not so long ago to change the CV BOOTs.
No point ordering what you don't need. Biggest problem is getting the bolts off the plate when you don't have good access. Couple of hours job on a ramp couple of days and a few boxes of plasters if its on a jack.
CV joints come off the end of the DS spline after you remove the circlip which is tucked in the end.

I went through several half shafts on the V8S before getting the uprated ones, symptoms exactly the same re waggly drive shaft etc. Failed CV is quite different because you can feel the dead remains graunching against each other when you turn the wheel by hand, and the half shaft is still held captive by the dead remains. The uprated half shafts were custom made by GKN and they might be worth approaching if you don't have any luck with the factory, dealers etc. Cost you several hundred to have custom shafts made, although this also gives you the option to get them made without the circlip groove (which forms a stress raiser which is why mine kept failing there).
And a clutch/flywheel/gearbox/diff/brakes/radiator/headers/MBE ECU + Sensors/Whole Aluminium Dash with dials/sports exhaust system (although someone else has already put his hand down for that one) etc etc etc
I'll post up the list of everything once everything is in a box.
Might be up for a spare gearbox... it's the only thing that hasn't been replaced on the Tuscan so far (other than the chassis)

i think you will find it has sheared where the inner circlit locates on the outer uj,just undoo the allen bolts on the shaft and she will fall off, without removing the hub thus not upsetting the tracking.
think u ll find chimara the same, renewing allen bolts is a good idea too .icould sell u one but u would have to buy the rest of the car as im now looking at a 348.

Also one breaking 4 spares on ebay.
eBay Item #7929314684

Just been following this thread, and thought I'd offer some insight. Driveshafts are definately NOT from anything else, and used to be assembled at TVR from all the components, e.g machined splined shaft, CV joints, boots, circlips and grease. Then they were supplied fully assembled from a well known drive-train company. Other bit of info is that failures are commonly due to the driveshafts being swapped from side to side, or diff end to wheel end, as this reverses the torques cycles and dramatically shortens their life. Having typed all that, I realise it's no help to anyone with a broken one, so good luck in the search!
