The gearbox oil on my '98 Chimaera is due for replacement - does anyone have any tips on accessing the filler plug? What do people use to refill the oil, some kind of pipette or syringe or something like that?

I use about 4 feet of flexible tubing and a funnel from above, I also warm the ATF on a rad to get it flowing nicely. Obviously it's easiest done with the car on a ramp but no reason why it can't be done on axle stands
There is a bit in here about how to do it. They suggest squidging the oil in from below in one of those gearbox oil containers with a pipe on but I found this slow and messy.

I used a small pump with a long tube to get the oil in.
works great if the oil is a bit warm.

Just fill until it drips out of the hole besides the hose.

This goes for a T5 garbox

i got one of these from a local motor factors worked great.
Hilka Oil Suction Gun for Gear Oil
from memory the plug is half inch square so can just use a a half inch driver.

biggest thing that caught me out was the incorrect figure for the quantity of oil in the hand book, hand book has it as 1.4 litres but this was incorrect for me needed more that 2.5 litres as....

had to wait for more to be delivered.

and did this on axle stands

Great, thanks for all the useful replies. Those suction guns look pretty useful, great link!
