Can anybody help me find the name for a type of processing that is used in some Flash video where it looks like every other pixel in the video is removed, but the image still looks good?

An example is on the homepage here:

http://www.listentoboy.com

But it's unreliable and sometimes the video doesn't load. I saw an advert for the Boeing Dreamliner where they did it as well but (typically) I can't find it now.

The best way I can describe it is if you imagine the picture on the left is full colour/pixels, the two on the right would be reduced pixels but still full colour. When this is done on video the eye is tricked to seeing the picture properly.

I'm actually trying to compress a gif. My editor gives me the option to compress colours, but if I could find a way to do this pixel thing I think it would work.

Any ideas? I suspect that listentoboy.com video isn't going to load. If I can track down another similar video I will, but have only seen a couple on the internet that I can remember.

I should note, the dimensions, frame rate, and colours stay the same, it's only the number of active pixels that appears to change. I'm Googling furiously...
