So I got the strobe out to check the timing only to discover I couldn't actually find where the hell the timing marks are! All I can see is a crank sensor at around 3 o clock looking from the front of the engine. And realistically you can only get a reasonable view into the pulley from the passenger side.(390SE)

Any clues?

Yes, the timing marks are not well defined. I had to rotate the engine and brush the pulley over until I found the marks, then put tipex on the original so that I could get a strobe to show up. I also found the the marks were out by about 5 degrees.

I had to do the same , burley the pulley round, clean it and mark with tippex.
