Does motoring get any cheaper than these variants ?

Current commuter hack is dying and Im considering a £3k version of one of these.

As I see it, commuting in a car does not get any cheaper ?

Except it's not, because the obvious comparator is another £2k Aygo without an LPG kit.

1.5 Dci Clio. End of discussion. Or 1.5 Dci Scenic (I know, I know wash my eyes out etc) does 70mpg if you are really really really really careful. A Clio must be close to 80mpg when driven careful, if that's what you get off on.

Diesel is for tractors....

Seriously tho, is there anything else that's as cheap to run as one of these?

Smart car...

I would look at small car diesels, ones like polo 1.9 tdi 130 or seat, nice engines as well, pretty pokey.

Small engined cars are good for city but tire quickly on longer runs, esp when you can't overtake anything.

The engines may go on forever but the rest of the car will have died long before the engine. It'll probably be on a component where other manufacturers design in a 15p replaceable clip but Renault, being French and being Renault, will make you break the component to repair it.

this will used for primarily my commute, which is about 70% tiny lanes, which are rutted and full of potholes. Speed is pretty irrelevant, and dint forget,im using a Ka at the moment.

Needs to be small and nimble, and.cost peanuts to run.

Very disturbed people might do this, but why is it relevant?

Some people either like small cars, or their usage profile makes a small car a reasonable choice.

In terms of general reliability and economy at your price point you won't get better than a 107 / C1 / Aygo. They are actually quite fun to drive too.

Plus you gain an extra hobby of spending your weekends glueing back all the bits that have fallen off in the week....
