boxster insurance
Discussion
hi, just checking out this website for the first time.
i recently sold an elise, and am eagerly awaiting delivery of a new boxster 987 S in a couple of months.. Was wondering if anyone had any pointers about which insurance companies might give me a cracking deal to cover my new wagon ?? had my elise lined up through a lotus insurance, so not sure where to start. Ive got a few points, am 33 yrs, and am keen to get it lined up cheap as... any info / feedback much appreciated !!!

Depends on what you want.
Direct Line are dirt cheap. There are others who'll quote nice and low.
But if you want track day insurance none of the low cost insurers seem to do it these days.
I have used these guys in the past:
www.performancemarque.com
who may be able to arrange suitable cover for you. You also get a discount if you are a PCGB member - or a free membership if your not, I believe...
Its worth joining the PCGB.
Enjoy your new car!

Nice one Don, thanks for that. I'll check it out with
performancemarque.
Post up what sort of deal you get, would you? Come February I'll need to renew and I'm on the hunt for the right policy with track day cover.
RSA (via Perf. Marque) used to offer a policy with PCGB days included for free. But I'm tired of being limited to their days - and it looks like RSA are dropping the cover anyway...
Yep, RSA removed PCGB trackday cover for my recent Boxster S renewal. Consequently, I've changed to Liverpool Victoria. They don't cover trackdays either, but are £150 cheaper than RSA, don't require the car to be garaged or tracker fitted, don't even care about a few speeding points and cover class 1 business use automatically. They were cheaper than anyone else that I tried (tried quite a few) and seem to have an excellent reputation for claims handling etc (see recent thread under main Porsche forum). Best of luck.
Hi Dave,
I recently sold my elise and bought an "S" too. Went for Liverpool Victoria for the insurance after seeing the recommendations here. It's hard to believe, but true, that they dont seem to care where you keep the car, how many points you've got for speeding or, incredibly, what you annual mileage is......all that and they were cheaper than any other insurer.
Enjoy the "S" - once you get used to that stupid large steering wheel it's quite a lot of fun.
Steve.

Interesting. Having owned 3 Elsies, I'm looking at the new Boxster with interest. To those who swapped, what was you're main reason for plumping for the Boxster?
I didn't swap from an Elise - I came from a 406 Coupe (3.0L one - nice) and a TVR Chimaera.
I got it because I wanted a reasonably reliable car that could be used daily as a travelling device and also provide on-track entertainment - a la the Elise I test drove on-circuit. (Great car too).
I have described the Porsche Boxster (S) as a the happy lovechild of a Lotus Elise and a Jaguar.
You get mid-engined poise, balance, pointability and handling coupled with luxury, refinement, comfort, practicality and a pleasant level of grunt (not that it couldn't do with more but so could the Elise).
They're great cars - because they do so many things well and nothing badly. Jack of all trades - master of some.
What you will miss from the Elise: total connection with the road - the feedback is still there but its subtler.
Spend time with one and you'll come to love it - but its a grower - don't expect to be blown away immediately...at least..that's how I found it...
Enjoy whatever you get!
I had my elise from new for c. 15 months and did
12000 miles in it, even though i use an old pug 406
alot of the time for dodgin around town. the elise
was just fantastic fun caning round the country roads where i am in scotland. But as the weather started to deteriorate i found myself thinkin 'what would be still be alot of fun but be more useable, comfy on long journeys, wouldnt leak (got fed up
renting lock ups to keep it in over winter),etc.
I always knew I wanted a 911 (maybe a nice 993) at some point, but was never really that drawn to the boxster.. wasnt a huge fan of the styling. I went for a test drive though (albeit brief) and it seemed alright. A bit grown up and stuff but seemed like a grower .. Once I heard they were about to launch a new one, with a bit more power and the promise of meaner styling I was alot more interested. Saw some pictures on the net, convinced myself it made sense on the residuals side of things, and went for it.. Now I cant wait to get it in the next few weeks, having seen it in the flesh this week. The electric hood sounds like a real bonus too, after enduring the elise roof.

Just been for a spin in a new 987s this avo... well, well impressed!! Briefly; I thought it looked the business, esp with those 19 inch wheels. It immediately sounded much meaner than I had expected,
and when you're on the move it just sounds superb when you give it some welly. I was well chuffed too that I was able to get a much comfier driving position (I'm 6 ft 3) than I could in the Boxster I tried a couple of months ago. The reach adjustment on the wheel helps. My experience of Boxsters is pretty limited, but this car seemed to have a really strong, but kinda progressive amount of urge.. more than I was expecting to be honest. Time will tell whether it is as much fun in an Elise kinda way, but after today, I have no reservations and cant wait to get one in a few weeks...
