SL350 - Amazing economy!
Discussion
So I finally bit the bullet and this week I took delivery of a new Merc SL 350 AMG (Petrol, V6) and I wasn't expecting great things economy-wise. But first full tank, brim-to-brim and I averaged 38 mpg (trip said 38.1). Better yet, I did a 100 mile trip on the motorway yesterday and trip meter tells me the average over that distance was 41 mpg! Most of that was 70mph motorway cruising with cruise control, but it wasn't that long ago that I would have been happy with that from a run of the mill diesel.
If you believe the constant-consumption readings from the dash computer then at a steady 70 mph it never drops below 40 mpg.
And at the other end of the scale I had a 'spirited' roof down sport-mode drive across Dorset/Hampshire yesterday afternoon and the average was still 32mpg. I need to do a few more brim-to-brim measurements for accuracy, but I'm very happy. Also, car is simply fantastic btw ;-)
