C class fan problem.

Hi,
I've recently bought a V reg C200 as a run around. Noticed an intermittent rattling noise coming from the engine bay. After a bit of investigating, it apppears that the bearings in the radiator fan have worn, with the resulting play causing the noise. Speaking to my local indie, they have advised that it is not a serviceable part and a new part from MB would cost an arm and 2 legs. He couldn't recall the exact price but he did state its not worth it given I only paid £600 for the car.
Sooooooooooooo, the questionsis, is it serviceable or does anyone know of a suitable inexpensive place for a replacement. (the car is otherwise immaculate and has just ticked over to 70k miles)
