The evolution of your bike...

My current MTB started off life in 2007 as a Specialized Stumpjumper Comp.



I was riding a lot at the time so soon wore out the drivetrain - new SLX crank and some other bits (plus a Phenom SL saddle):



Soon it was SPD time, and a new cassette plus other drivetrain bits



Then a fairly major re-build:



New brakes (Elixir CR), crank and other bits:



I then killed the forks so went for RS SIDs on my quest for lightness (and won a small local off road tri on it!)



I also flung £300 at a good front light and got very into night riding:



A few more bits wore out and it was new rear and front mech time as well as new shifters: I also soon stuck on riser bars and a shorter stem:



I then decided the bike was just a bit too XC only and not fun enough plus a five year old alu frame starts to feel "dead" and wooden so new frame time - Cotic Soul 3:



And finally in it's current guise - I replaced the very last original part, the stem top cap!
A mix of XO (shifters, rear mech, brakes), XTR, Hope hoops, Thomson (seatpost and stem), Easton (carbon bars), Chris King (BB), Hope (Headset), XT crank with TA Chinook rings, Phenom Pro saddle and the new Fox 120mm tapered, 15mm FIT forks. Love it but I don't dare add up what it's cost me...!

When I bought my Yeti Ultimate in the early nineties i had to make some choices on components due to cost as I was at school. Thanks to ebay and being at work I have changed a fair bit including respray and replace some of the old components with the Ringle and Cook Bros period parts that I so wanted back then.

Best not to add up the costs

The trouble is, if you add up just the components as it is, it's a hell of a lot less than what the bike has actually cost. I'm a lot handier with a spanner now but most early work was done by proper bike mechanics. Wouldn't be surprised if I've spent a grand on just labour!

But I get on it, grin from ear to ear and can't think of a thing I'd change on it - for now.

Actually, can you get just (black) crank arms (except Race Face) anywhere? I'd love XTR but there's also a nifty company called Rotor who make nice black ones... I think I'd better leave it for a while though....!

looks good, current bike, but frame changed, new forks isn't this like triggers broom?
