944/968 Cabrio rear seats

Been to look at a very nice 968 Cabrio today, good colour, service history, all the usual bits replaced but I'm looking at it as a 2+2 and hoping to get my 8 year old son in the rear seats. To be honest, it looks a no go, even if he fits now he isn't in a year or so and when in there he's face to face with a very solid looking high back seat.
Anyone any experience of this please?
Also that car was over a 100 miles away from home and my son wasn't able to come with me. Is there anyone within a half hour or so of Scotch Corner got one that I could pop along and try him in.

Lap belts only in a cab. I can sit in the back though, and Im 6'3" and weight 17 stones.

Hi QuickfitSBS will do either harnesses or 3 point lap & diag conversions so I know the belts are a not a problem.
TBH I tried to sit in the back, 5'11", 13.5 stone and I didn't fit.
Was thinking that an 8 year old would fit but not in two years time.
seller admited his 14 year old daughter had only tried it once, I tried, got in, but couldn't get the front seat back into place without the seat being pushed as far forward as it would go. kind of thought that young son would be face to face with the back of the highback front seat.

Any others tried?

Whilst I have owned 10+ FrontRunners I dont think that I have ever sat in the back of a Cab, so I have to cencede that they may be different.

I wont exaggerate and suggest that Id like to spend a long journey in the back of any 924 derived car, but I can sit there and fasten the belts without difficulty. My daughter recently accompanied me on a day out in my 944 and she sat in the back with minimal complaint, despite being a relatively tall young woman.

My kids could sit in the back of a 968/944 coupe no problem, and I would sit in the back of my Mum's 924 when I was 14!!

I believe the Cab seats are the same as the Coupe

The secret is to pull the passenger seat forward a bit, they are fine for you to take 2 kids and the dog, but not as a full 4 seater (the dog would sit behind me, with harness attached to the seatbelt, and rest his head on the arm-rest)

Hi, I'm in North Leeds, you're welcome to come down and try my s2 for size, but it's about 40 mins from scotch corner. My dad had a couple of 944s back in the 80's, I was often in the back as a kid on long journeys. If my memory is correct As I got to about 13 or 14 I think it felt uncomfortable on longer journeys, my guess woul be that about 5ft 5, 5ft 6 is the max before it becomes a squash and a squeeze

Thanks, yes I can see your thought there. With a child in the front & one behind it, would work but with wife in the front seat, unless she has her face close to the windscreen there's little room and it's a bit claustrophic in the rear, I fear.

It was all a little suprising on saturday, as a neighbour used to have a 944 coupe and he had suggested the cabrio as as possible contender. Without my son there it was all a little bit guesswork but it didn't look hopeful and when I got in to evaluate...

No coupe I'm afraid

The squab is the same but the backs are different on a cabriolet. Whether this makes any practical difference I am not sure.

Jeremy made a very good point about the front seat position when the rear seat is in use. I have driven the cars four up in the past, but for it to be comfortable the rear sear passenger needs leg room which requires the cooperation of the front seat passenger.
