Just a simple rant about people not lighting up!!

Is it just me, or is this year particularly bad for people not lighting up as dusk approaches, (especially on unlit rural A roads) and even worse when you flash them they simply ignoring you, or in the case of one numpty

This is one of my pet hates Street, and the worst perpetrators are taxi drivers; in Glasgow they drive about in pitch black roads on sidelights.
Utter idiots; it is so dangerous on winter nights, particularly to pedestrians who are liable to walk out in front of them.

I know what you mean Street, but it's the same thing.
I think some driver's just think if it's a wee bit dark you just press the nearest switch on your dash with a lamp symbol on it and that'll do.
No thought, no common sense.
Could'nt agree more with all of you, stuck in a massive traffic jam on the M6 last Friday from Birmingham all the way upto Preston nearly, a BMW driver decided that although it was raining (hard) and the sunset was upon us it was okay to have just his sidelights on, not only that my trip started at 3.30pm, fairly light you'd have thought, it was but with the rain clouds at times it was rather dark but seen as it got to over 8pm and this idiot still decides to drive with side lights on is sheer ignorance and lack of concentration for what is going on around you, not to mention the stop start of heavy traffic in driving rain and darkness to boot.
Going off on my rant here why do people in the early hours (sunrise) still feel obliged NOT to put lights on - of any sorts!.
How people have licences or even have one without points i'll never know.

I noticed the same thing today, however I'm a big fan of dipped headlights all the time.
What I noticed today driving down the motorway in the rain is that cars on sidelights are invisible through wet side & rear windows. Such that I even pulled out on somebody as they simply were'nt visible when I looked to see them.
It's fine if we all have X-Ray vision but I bet a good 50% of drivers have iffy vision plus add in that they don't bother to look anyway.
Headlights for me every time, it's saved my bacon on many an occasion.

Oh no!...cptsideways is a closet Volvo driver!
Only till January when I have to drive it the Gambia!!, I'm quite fond of it too, it's like driving a jelly mould crossed with a T35 Tank

i met one of those the other night,about 50yds after a 90 degree corner on an unlit section of country road.....he was about a second from becoming a bonnet ornament on my motor when i spotted his pair of white trainers reflecting off my lights......the rest of the prats clothes were black!
out of interest,IF i had have hit him who would have been at-fault? the cyclist for not having lights/reflective clothing/a cycle helmet/riding a bike on a 60mph unlit road.......or me for mearly driving a legal car on the road and not noticing the complete tool until i was on top of him (literally)?

Are you truly advocating that we drive round on sidelights? You suprise me. As far as i am concerned, the little 5watt jobbies are only any good as parking lights.
If it`s dark enough to need them on, its dark enough for dipped headlights. Headlights bright?
Thats the point! If they obscure some tw@t who is dumb enough to drive round with no lights, thats his problem, not mine. Try driving a truck in the rain, and see how hard it is to spot someone driving on just sidelights. At least if they are behind you with dipped headlights, you can see the wash of light even if you cant see the car.
Poor advice I`m afraid mate.
