Excuse my ignorance, but I'm assuming this is much the same type of vessel that sank in Albert Dock a few months ago?
Different operator, obviously, but same type of vessel? I seem to remember a thread on here that most were suggesting these things were an accident waiting to happen....

Is this the first water incident for one of the London ones?
Just been watching the BBC news report on it and they said it was lucky as near fire station, shallow water and other boats. Surely the reality all of those conditions probably apply all the time for this particular vessel as its not in the river long and there's lots of other boats on the river!
Interestingly it doesnt appear to have sunk, is that because it was on the bottom?

The pictures I saw were right by the side so it's possible it was very close to the bank if the water was low. Apparently the boat was towed off. It's the first problem in London with these but if you look at the BBC report it says two sank in Liverpool this year.Just been watching the BBC news report on it and they said it was lucky as near fire station, shallow water and other boats. I used to see the duck boat quite often when I worked right by the river. Always thought it looked fun till now!

Not sure what you have to do to adapt them for tourists, apart from safety features maybe, they were designed to carry men when they were built.

Electrics etc, to meet our stringent regs a lot of stuff would have to be done to carry fare paying passengers. You have to have a PCV/Captains license to drive the damn thing.
They have now stopped taking them in the water but according to the latest BBC news http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-243287... and Mr Bigos of London Duck Tours "London Duck Tours operates a fully modernised fleet of nine vehicles that have been completely rebuilt and refurbished between 2002 and 2012. This includes new, purpose built hulls, new engines, computerised systems and steering equipment"
So whats actually original!

Think along these lines. How does this incident differ from a car fire, if a Volvo S80 caught fire, would you ban all Volvo 80's from our roads? No.
I think if you took the number of S80s on the roads and worked out the percentage that had issues, then action probably would be taken.I hope they manage to save them and keep them running as they're fun to see about.
