Drving the 930. Does it help to be a funny shape?

I bought a 930 about 7 years ago. It was cheap, after I'd finished haggling, as the last few owners had
failed to keep on top of it, and it was looking a little sorry for itself.

The to-do list was massive, and over the next four years it drained my bank account by about 25k resulting
in a very grumpy wife indeed.

Until recently I didn't really drive it much, as it's been something of a rolling restoration. But now the
majority of things are sorted, I've been taking it out for a hoon.

When it got nice and hot, I noticed that it was a bit notchy on occasion through the gears. Nothing major,
and not every time, but enough to make my heart sink thinking that yet another bigish bill was imminent
for a box-rebuild.

After much swearing, a friend jokingly said "are you pushing in the clutch enough"? My response was brief, the
second word being "off". Anyway, when he wasn't around, I moved the seat one click forward just to be sure.

The gears changed smoothly! What a pillock I felt. The car is now much easier to drive. The downside is I now
feel like some sort of primate when I'm driving it. Arms wrapped around the wheel like a monkey hanging on
to a treetrunk and little stumpy legs poking the pedals.

If I recline the seat enough to get my arms in the right position, I'd need a periscope through the sunroof
to see where I'm going.
Short of stretching my legs on a rack and removing about 30cm from my arms I don't really see what I can
do about it. Anyone else find the driving position of these a bit awkward?

Interesting. It is usually the opposite complaint - wheel too far away. Indeed Porsche offered the option of an extended hub to bring the wheel closer on 3.2/930.

Thanks. I'm glad it's not just me, I was beginning to feel like the missing link there for a second.
I admit that my legs are a bit short for my height, but nothing weird, according to my mother anyway.

Apologies for being an infernal pedant, but a 930 is a turbo. The three two carrera is certainly a better car, but
is the driving position the same? Probably, but I can't remember.

In that case I must be further down the evoloutionary ladder than I thought. And today started so well.

I know the 930 is a turbo. But 3.2 has same driving position. I was referring to both.

All the air cooled have this issue.

I find it difficult to find a comfortable position on long motorway journeys, I end up with pain in my right knee.

But when pushing on A and B roads, ie working the car, I have no problems at all. Everything just works.

Just keep trying different positions.

my shoulders ache after a good mountain driving session, similar to after a good gym work, I like that feeling

I guess I'm sort of lucky as the 3.2/930/964/993 driving position suits me just fine. Fairly long arms and legs seem to do the trick. The slightly offset driving position actually stops me getting knee problems. Not loading up the bits in my knees that are knackered.

Sorry, no disrespect intended, I just couldn't remember how similar they were inside. It's been at least 7
years since I sat in one. I should have phrased it better.

The rate this damn thing drinks fuel that wedge of cash is going to have me wedged prone against the
roof lining.

I think I have just about mastered my 930 driving position. I have the seat set in position for town work or country lane driving where I am changing gear more then when I get onto a motorway for longer periods I just move the seat backwards one notch which lets me get comfortable for the long journey.

I do love it really, both in spite of, and because of it's eccentricities.

As JMC1 says, I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.

It made a huge impression on me when I was about 12 years old, and I've wanted one since. The reality isn't quite
like the dream, but I think it's still a really good laugh to drive. Like a rocket-powered tractor in Gucci lingerie.

...And mine makes a noise like a swarm of angry wasps chasing me, at full throttle, which is really
quite addictive.
