Hi all

after some advice, i was going to get my K&N induction kit on saturday but i read up that they are pointless on the m3 E46 54 plate convertible? i was fitting a direct cold air feed as well.

Why is this? I do want to get her mapped also, im not after massive power gains, just extra growls from the pipes, but i dont want to lose power.

Help confused

Pointless, although you do get some more induction noise, remap will do nothing for exhaust note.

Fit a decent sports exhaust and leave it there.

No idea if I lost power on the one that I had fitted on my old E46 M3 but it sounded great! Came already fitted to the car, the stock one replaced it, but only because I sold the car and my brother fitted it onto his M3

Spot on. Put a performance panel in the existing air system and a performance box on it and leave the rest alone.

Ok i have a milltek exhaust fitted, but for the noise i may fit the k&n just wanted to make sure i didn't lose power, that was my main concern.

Like a K&N cotton/foam filter instead of the normal paper.

No gains to be had so pointless.

Only real gain is the CSL air box but for a few hp extra £3k or so is completely loopy rolleyes

Flter panel instead of conical. Even the legendary dave f gave mixed results. I found i lost low end torque as a trade for higher end power which in the real world wasnt worth it. There's always a risk of slight heat soak as well.
