I have an annoying problem with my V8V. I am getting a loud high pitched squeal from the wheels at very low speed (like when navigating round car parks etc). It gets worse when I turn, especially with full lock on the steering and is worse when the car is warm. It sounds like its coming from the front. This happens whilst i'm not applying any braking.

I have had the car back to AM under warranty over this. The first time they said it was probably the pads rubbing and did a deglaze and bedding in procedure on them. It didn't solve the problem and over time i'd say its getting more frequent and louder. I have just sent it back in again with the same issue - and they are still saying its 'probably' the pads rubbing and have suggested doing the deglazing/bedding in procedure again (this time at my expense - since they are now claiming its due to "wear and tear" which isn't covered by warranty)

I do get a high pitched noise under braking too, however this is a different sound.

Has anyone else experienced this?

you have wheels spacers? maybe the screw are too long in this case (happened to me withnthe rear tyres and different car)

the strut bar is well tighted? happened this too in the past

bearings of the wheel are in 90% the cause imho

Sounds like the handbrake pads dragging on the discs, some people have managed to get this fixed - some special grease I believe (someone will no doubt post what was done). For some reason it is more present in tight, slow corners.

Mine squeak pretty frequently, a good jet wash of the dust build up usually makes it go away.

This I believe is a pretty regular "feature" related to how the handbrake. You're not alone, and it's an annoying noise.

yes

Plastic based (blue) anti squeal compound helps adjusting the handbrake with weight on the wheels often sorts it out

+1 for handbrake pads. The rear subframe flexes & with handbrake cable in normal route, it effectively gently pulls on the brakes on one side. Cable can be rerouted to reduce the effect

Thanks for the replies.

AM also came to the conclusion that it was the handbrake - so have slackened the cable off slightly. Haven't had much chance to drive it since getting it back - but it does seem better. I guess time will tell.

I get this too, but thought it was too minor to have it attended too.

If you don't the handbrake pads will wear a groove in the disc and then a ridge in the rear brake pads
Ask me how I know frown

Thanks for the helpful advice but it only happens to mine whilst turning in reverse gear very very slowly, which I don't very often. Under normal reversing speeds (if there is such a thing) it doesn't seem to make that high pitched squeal.

+1 handbrake pads. Had this sorted on mine and haven't had issues with the squeal since.
