St Albans to Lowestoft, A11 or A12?

Morning all, I've got to drive from St Albans to Lowestoft tomorrow morning (and back Wednesday morning). I've driven into Norfolk along the A11 once before and recall it being one of the least inspiring drives I've ever had, full of trucks elephant racing and mile after mile of arrow straight yawn worthy D/C. But I know nothing about the rest of the route or the A12

But because I'm taking the XJ frankly I'll be listening to the radio and minding my own business.

So, recommendations please? And maybe somewhere to stop for breakfast The least time slowing down and speeding up the better as the Jag is a tad thirsty....

Turn off the A14 at Bury St.Edmunds for the A143 all the way to Beccles and go in on the A146.
Lots of the A143 is smooth fast and wide single carriageway. My sports cars actually love that road.

I'd go on the A12. There are massive roadworks on the A11 between Thetford and Mildnehall. 40mph and boring as feck
