I am close to buying the above car. It has been advertised as a 99 but is registered in October 1998. The seller tells me that it is the 99 model. When I come to sell won't it be regarded as the 98 model though?

Models for the following year start to be built after the summer break at the factory. Therefore, anything built from September one year will be a model for the following year. For example, a Boxster built in September 2000 will in fact be a 2001 model.

You just need to advertise your car as a 1998 (1999 model) when you sell it.

Thanks, that's what the seller said and so wanted to clear that up. If I buy through a quality independent, is it bad form to ask a porsche mechanic to give it the 74 point check if the independent has already serviced and Mot'd the car?

Not at all. For the sake of a couple of hundred quid, get another party to look at the car. The report, if generally ok, will be good documentation when you sell the car.

Absolutely not, there was a case on some forum in the last few days where a car was bought from a dealer which had been crashed/repaired and the buyer wasn't made aware, because they never asked.

To be honest, even an OPC won't properly check a car, they just clean it up and sell it.

I realise buying a second hand car is a risky exercise but the checks they would do as a call out would pretty much cover all the bases then?
