Have always been a fan of the M3 and although the V8 version split some opinions it does appeal to me. I was a little surprised to see that even 5 year old cars with average miles are still 25k for a decent spec (19s, EDC, good stereo). If you consider it was a 50k car new and is expensive to run thats actually pretty good residuals. Are they as heavy on the wallet as I imagine? high tax, low mpg, expensive tyres and M car servicing? Also what are they like to drive as a daily car.

Awesome cars - not that costly to run relative to the e46 m3.

The amount of settings are fantastic - love the m button as it has all the specific settings you like when hooning.

The manual transmission is super silky unlike the e46 and i prefer it to the dct.

I bought one and also know of a fully loaded one the guy is selling for £22k for a quick sale, 37k miles and viper /tracker etc. etc.

What is servicing like Steve? Main dealers usually add on the 'M' tax! I know mpg will be 20mpg which isn't great. I love the styling and interior is a nice place to be. Usually get good standard kit too. Do they feel as big and heavy on the road? Hopefully they are the sort of car that 'shrinks' round you as you press on. Would love a V8 car and lets face it they are sadly going to be phased out in the future as smaller engines and turbos become the norm.

At a specialist servicing costs in line with the e46 - they are at that point where specialist stamps are starting to appear.

To me it feels far more composed than the e46 - just tighter all round, you can feel the lower centre of gravity due to the carbon fibre roof.

In my time i've had many performance cars (inc. porsches) and hot hatches - this current m3 is the last great na imho.

It took me a few weeks to bond, but i love it now and put it ahead of the 996 turbo that i was on the cusp of buying.

Oem exhaust mod makes the car even more amazing.

Mates car is great, as long as you have a BMW warranty. He has had an E46 before this and wasn't as troublesome. Every bill has a £1000 plus price tag. Car is 70k miles old now and just had a new diff, driveshafts, cv's and the real problem noise which fixed it was the propshaft. It has also had a throttle body fail, exhaust, discs and injector issues and continual wheel lacquer issues. He said his E46 was a much better car and if he didn't have insurance, would have bankrupted him.

Sounds like a right lemon!
