Budget build or buy used

Right people, I am looking to get the wife her first road bike and have a budget in mind of £300.

So option one is I buy a used bike for her or option two I collect the parts new/used and build a bike.

If I go for the second option I already have a spare wheelset and perhaps I will upgrade a few parts on my bike and pass down the bits from mine.

So which would be the best result option?

I had the same dilemma and landed on a brand new Felt FW75 for 580 on ebay. just needed a mech hanger as it had been taken off to service another bike

So buy over build you say? The suggested are more than I wish to spend because she might not take to it.

I'd say buy a used bike that sells easy so something popular. If she doesn't take you should be able to sell it on for what you paid pretty much.
