Hi All

I have a clearance problem in that my gear lever is touching a chassis rail when attempting to select first gear. No problems with 3rd & 5th gear selection.
Its been suggested that I check the relative position of the engine mounts. ie: is the engine bolted in front of, or behind the chassis member. Mine has been bolted in front of the mount as can be seen from the picture attached. I would be very grateful if an owner could check the position of the engine mount in your car and see if it matches mine?

I recently had work done which required 'engine out' hence the possibilty that it may have been replaced on the wrong side. It's the first place to check and might account for the gear lever being too far forward.

Large arrow indicates front of car. Picture was taken looking down from the passenger side.

Hope you can help....

Many Thanks

GG

Hi, just looked at mine and it's bolted the same as yours. (I replaced my mounts earlier this year).
Don't understand why you've got the problem. Have you took the centre console off around the gear lever and had a good look to see where there may be interference on the stick?

Ant.

Just checked mine too, I fitted them in the same place as the ones I took off and yes, the mount is behind the engine bracket.

Fitted new engine mounts to a T350 yesterday, they were the same too.

Thanks guys, my next question is: how much free play (approx) do you have in the gear lever. Measured in the neutral position in the fore and aft plane. Ie: the gear lever is between 3rd and 4th gear, just wiggle it forwards and backwards, how much total movement is there before it sticks into gear. Mine seems to have between 6 and 12mm play.
I'm trying to establish if there may be too much wear in the nylon cup within the shifter mechanism.

Thanks again

That sounds like the PTFE bush may have been "lost" from the top of the selector housing where the gear stick sits. Remove the centre console and the stick and you should be able to see the bush in position.

OP, not what you've asked but related. I've found my Tamora burns through engine mountings meaning they were done every year as a service item. As I'm sure you are aware they are a pig to do.

2 years back I had "uprated" mounts fitted (by Str8 Six) which have actually lasted. So if you do get to replacing I'd look out some of these!
