Restoring an old Jag and on the dash it has a knob for the rear window demister, but someone must have replaced the rear window with a window with no demister element. Is it possible to buy a heater element grid thingy that would just stick to a plain window? Thanks!

You used to be able to buy these really easily but I've not seen them in car accessory shops for years.

You could make one from this kit:-

Or here (bottom of page 76):-

While these stick on elements were very popular during the 70's and 80's I don't know of anyone who manufactures them these days so if there are any about, then they will probably be (very) old stock with no real "sticky" left.

If on a budget, how about a ceramic fan heater? There are loads on Amazon which can either plug into the cigar lighter socket or run off a rechargeable battery or both).

I have no experience of them or how much heat they generate (you wouldn't want an intensive blast as it may crack a cold screen) but some are sold as front screen demisters so you could always mount one on the rear shelf?

Blood hell this takes me back to my early days of motoring in the 60's and 70's when virtually no car had provision for ice and mist clearing.
You would trot down to the local car shop where dozens of car freaks would be on a Sat and buy a silver sticky one one for your Mini or whatever.

These days car shops only sell ICE and polishing stuff as it seems nobody works at keeping their car going.

Does anyone else remember the 'high tech' front demisters advertised in the mags of the 50/60's
looked like a one bar electric fire with a couple of rubber suckers to hold it on!!
Bear in mind back then only the really top end cars had cigar lighters ,so wiring one of these into the loom of a 1950 Ford Anglia was something else
