Ok, I know the obvious answer is eat less and excercise more, but hear me out!

I play intensive 5/6/7 a side football for at least an hour monday, tuesday & wednesday nights every week. I play 80 mins of competetive rugby on a Saturday pretty much every week. Thursdays, Fridays & sundays are rest days at the moment, but maybe need to slot in some weights somwhere.

My daily routine is pretty set, as I work monday to friday.

Wake up 6.25am
Drive to work. 7.30am Breakfast is a boiled egg and Banana
10am tea break:I have a cup of tea with semi skimmed milk, another boiled egg, a banana, a pear & an apple.
12.00pm Lunch- Generally steamed veg, spuds & lean meat. Usually off the slimmers world menu so pretty good, drink water.
2pm tea break: Large orange , more water
6pm drive home, another apple
9.30-10pm after football generally a slimmers world menu meal, which is usually loads of veg, a few spuds & lean meat

I have the odd weekend night out but not every week, and the occasional treat, but nothing mega....

Now I am 6'3, and 16 stone dead on. I was down to 15:3 before I went on holidays in June, where I put almost a stone on in two weeks (good times biggrindrink) , but that required training like an animal and basically being dead on my feet 24/7...

Is it possible to eat too much fruit? I seem to be stuck around 16 stone and put anything under that back on very, very quickly banghead My fitness is really good, but despite being able to play intensive sport I am still carrying far too much flab, and whilst my fitness is improving all the time, I don't seem to be losing any more fat?

I'm considering going low carb, but not sure if this is the way forward?

Are you lying to yourself as there doesn't seem enough food there to fuel a mouse?!

Get a cal counter on your phone and stay below 1200 cals a day imho.

It sounds odd, but I seem to be constantly eating! The only time I get hungry really is around 5pm, but I don't really eat much as I don't want to play football after a meal. I'm wondering if I need to eat a bit more protein?

My understading is that doesn't make a lot of difference.

I wold guess you are cheating somewhere and not recording it.

This I think.

Something like myfitnesspal on your phone can be a real eye opener as to the amount of calories being consumed.

Changing refined white carbs like white pasta and white bread for wholegrain versions, cut out fruit juice. Eating late shouldn't make much of a difference. Get myfitnesspal on your phone, log every meal and don't lie or try and cheat it. Stick it on "lose 2lbs per week" mode and it will probably set you a 1500 cal/day limit, work hard and stick to it, and the weight should come off. It only works if you are honest with it though.

Exactly this. Myfitnesspal really is an eye opener. If you take out more than you put in you will lose weight. It really is that simple......

Calories in> calories burned. You are either over stating your exercise or understating your food intake.

I have been looking at the amount of fruit I eat, might sound daft but would that much actually be detrimental? Just been doing a bit of research, and it looks like there are far more carbs than I realized?

Bananas approx 25g each
Apples approx 20g each
pear approx 25g each
large Orange approx 16g each

So ignoring all other meals, just my fruit intake daily is 130g of carbs, is that too high?

Diet's not too bad.

The exercise is not enough - amateur footie and the odd game of rugby is insufficient for serious energy expenditure.

Tbh "3 square meals a day" is good advice. 1200-1500 cals a day over 3 meals will see weight fall off especially as you're active too.

I'm guessing that (naturally) sugary fruit is probably not helping in large doses.

No.

Total carbs could be anywhere between 40-70% of your total daily calorific intake.

I just punched your fruit intake into Myfitnesspal and it returns 534 calories which is quite a bit. Why don't you put your daily intake in and see what you are doing? I bet it's quite a bit more than you think.....

Only if his total daily calorie consumption is 800! (or thereabouts) smile Most blokes are easily above 2500...

He wants to be around 1500 really to lose weight (maybe a bit more with the activity he is doing). He's already doing a third of that just in fruit. I would say that with everything else he is eating on top, his calorie intake is way over 1500......

Fruit is the enemy.

Touted as "healthy" well healthy and losing weight are 2 different things.

yes some fruit is good but there is a lot of sugar laden calories in most fruits.

I'd aim to be around 2k calories a day, and then go down from there, first of all I'd drop the banana, this will make you hungrier faster if eaten first thing.
