Another NSL bites the dust.....

The A404 betweeen Batchworth Hill (Rickmansworth) and Northwood has been closed for resurfacing. It re-opened last week.

Previously, 60mph limit - my wife drives it 2-4 times a day and doesn't remember any crashes on it. The surface is now much smoother, especially on the sharpish corner - so it's now a much "safer" road.

So, why has the limit been reduced to 40mph? Does anyone here who's familiar with that road know why?

And, how long until there are no NSL roads within the M25. Or anywhere else, for that matter

Closed for over a month! I thought they were putting in a dual carriageway or something.. especially inconvenient given that it's kind of a major route in the area.

try driving to the east coast from leeds.
Neraly all the roads are 40MPH now. lovely long country roads, no houses, no bends, no turn offs. All 40.

I believe it was done after consultation with the residents of the road...

Work ran over by 2 weeks, but, nice and grippy down there now, still havent managed to sort the bump out on the nasty bend half way, still, full 5-10 mph quicker through their now !!

Nope, and i'm as angry as you are about the whole thing (i use it everyday at 6am)and had already fired off a letter to Three Rivers District Council...

Now THERE's an idea.

Lobby for increased speed limits, and introduction of minimum speeds (which increase every year). Have more cameras, and fine people for driving too slowly, as they are causing congestion and hindering the progress of law-abiding travellers.

Over the speed limit - speeding,
Under the speed limit - causing congestion
At the speed limit - driving with intent to speed.

"extra charge for using vehicle at wrong time of day",

"wrong type of car for use to which it is being put".

Just another example of statistics-meddling in action. you lower a limit, create some easy-to-catch 'criminals', get some revenue whilst at the same time getting some statistics together that shows the crime detection/punishment rate has improved.

And all the while we have rising levels of violent crime, 'untouchable' scrotes who don't give a toss and emerging ghettoes of chavs ruining everyone's lives. But the statistics say everything's getting better

Actually they lowered the limit before hand. I know because I also drive on it, or used to fairly regularly and was shocked to see a 40 limit a few months back.

So how would one go about increasing a speed limit?
Say from 40 to 50mph? which a few years ago was NSL, and I believe has the same number of accidents on it now compared to when it was an NSL. (So the slow speed clearly does not work - as speed is not/was not the problem) ??

Im still quietly fuming over one on the edge of frome. Speed limit went from 60 to 30 overnight. Why? because they are building a supermarket. A year from now.
